Auto Pilots
Auto Pilots
I have 1989 Convertable. No Auto Pilot. I pretty much decided on the Simrad AP11 as the best for buck. Question is, what is the CI of the Hynautic Ram on the Bertram 33 rudders? I do have the original manual for the Hynautic, but they have several Ram sizes. Of course over the years the stamp on the Ram is impossible to read, so I can't tell which it is. If someone can tell me what size pump is on your existing Auto Pilot, or can pick the numbers off that Ram, it sure would be helpful. Or any other suggestions....thanks! E.W. Dugan

Is it my Comcast connection, or did site get incredibly sloooww? CaptGene, I've looked at the Simrads & also wondered what the capacity at the B33 rams. Without any specific answers, I ASSumed we needed the larger pump due to the weight of out boats. Most modern boats you're up to the 40' size for a comparable weight. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

I think bigger is better anyway. Ft Lauderdale Boatshow is next week. I'll ask if "big" would put any stress on a smaller Ram. These Boats weigh 22K. Most newer 37-40 footers don't weight that much. E.W. Dugan

The Forum is slow right now for some reason. I will check with the ISP as to why. I haven't changed anything at all. Maybe they are doing a maintanence cycle right now. As far as the auto pilot question goes, I can't really say. Mine was installed when I bought the boat. Man, I could not imagine boating without it, especially when you have to sometimes run 80-100 miles out to where the fish are. David Sumich Bertram33.com Forum Administrator

David... the connection is really slooow What Auto pilot is on your boat? Robertson? Most of the 33's I have seen have the older model. If I knew the model # of yours, I would know what size the pump is. I went to the Abacos last summer with no auto pilot. I was whipped! The wife and kiddies say we don't need a auto pilot bcuz I have so much help.....you can guess the rest. E.W. Dugan

Thanks guys, I crawled down in the hole over the weekend with a tape measure. According to the measurements the ram is a 13.8 psi. That would match up to using the RPU 160 for the AP 20. I think it's good up to 32 psi. The Auto helm low end is only good to 14 psi. That probably would work good if you drove the thing in a swimming pool on a calm day. It's worth the couple hundred extra to go one size over. E.W. Dugan
