How far down can you run into your fuel supply before it would kick. That is, what is the most (gas) you ever put in the FBC? I am always curious how much fuel is reachable. The most I have put in is 210 gallons but I would think you could go well past that? Now that I have the flowscan I am even more curious.

Well when we brough Bill's boat up from Maryland last year, we had one leg were we put in 240 gallons. I always figure that about 90% of our 315 gallons is actually useable (that's 283.5 gallons). Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

The most I ever filled was 286 gals. It was a run from Hingham to Nantucket and back. The last hour I was nervous. Usually I do about 185 to 210. That is for 9 to 10 hours of combined running.

Update to old post. I have put 305 gals in my 1980 the generator had quit running (could not lift fuel)

Dan, Were you at the dock when the gen ran out. Or were your boats engines still running. Also most of our boats there is only one shared fuel pickup . I recently installed a second fuel pickup for my generator because my new engines were robbing fuel from my generator and causing it to stop. Great to know 305 gallons are usable even though i hope i never get below 250

Wow. I know that Rick put in something like 285 gallons a couple of weeks ago. Its nice to know so much is usable, but its still awful feeling as though you may run out of fuel. I put 276 in recently, but I switched over to the Cruz Pro digital gauge and I have a much greater comfort zone knowing exactly what I have left in the tank. First fill up you synchronize the guage to the amount of fuel you add, every 20 gallons, then it accounts for the V-Bottom in the tank. Unfortunatley my generator quit running when at anchor twelve miles west of KeyWest My tank gauge was reading 1/4 I removed the gauge and found it had been hung up in the tank somewhere and was truly reading empty. We canceled that days fishing trip and ran back in to Key West. After fueling boat 305 gals the generator started right up. I dont know if it has a seperate pick up or not but that was my asumption. All of this happened six years ago when the boat and i were still getting to know one another We had been running the fuel down on purpose to see how big the tank was. But never wanted to cut it that close.

Dan, You can look in your fuel tank inspection hatch to see your fuel line connections. The ones i have seen have one large 3 way connector. I am assuming that there is only one pick up tube but i do not know that for sure.I removed the genset fuel line plugged the whole and added a separate pickup just for the genset in one of the extra plugs on top of the tank

Tim, I haven't had my pickup out, but the guy I'm woking the repower with says it is one 1/4 inch tube that handles the engines and the gen set. That is fine for what is in there now, but the fuel lines are going to have to be 1/2 for the 8.1s. So I think adding a tube for the gen set like you did is the right answer. Did you just drill a hole in the top of the tank and add a kit? Gene Dugan

Gene, There are already some plugged holes in the tank just remove the plug and insert a fuel pick up tube.I can post a picture if you like.I think the hole is either 3/8 or 5/8.I know i used a bushing to size it properly.
