Mike L. - yes the fit and serviceability are great. I'm 6' and 200# and I can crawl outboard of both engines. I wouldn't want to do it at sea, but at the dock it's a breeze. I too am really looking forward to the results of the MIKEFRITZ 370 repower. I'm betting on 23kts cruise.

My guess would be more on the side of 25 to 26kts cruise. Can't wait for the results. Mikequote:Originally posted by TBonedad Mike L. - yes the fit and serviceability are great. I went for a ride today, unexpectably. The owner of the boat yard said lets go for a ride and of course i sad OK.We went about 5 miles down a winding 100 yard wide creek. The electronics are not hooked up nor did i have a handheld gps.At 2200 rpm boat was up on plane and going alot faster than the 18-19 knots that the gas engines pushed it.At wide open just under 3100 rpms we guessed 28-30 knots and there was no problem with the handling of the boat even going thru sharp s turns.I am not going to know the real #s for about 2 weeks.Cruise will be between 2200+2600 so we are hoping for 24-25 knots.

I do not want to scare anyone with the cummins 370s but i thought i would share this with you for your information. My friend with a 40' Carver a 2000 with 370bta cummins blew an engine with about 500 hours on it 3 months ago. out of warranty it cost him 30k to install a factory refurb engine.3 weeks ago and 10 hours on the new engine he blew the new engine 15 minutes from the dock.I was with him at the time on the Photo Finish so i followed him back to the marina. The steam and smoke was pretty bad that i could not stay in his cabin long. I did look at the engine and the one cylinder head was black and the manifold was discolored and actually there seemed to be a short lived fire because the wire harness was toast and there were scorch marks on the underside of the engine hatch.Fortunately for George the factory refurbs have a 2 year warranty.Their initial evaluation is that the seal between the turbo and the manifold blew. Now ...the first engine that blew, the same cylinder of the engine blew because the water pump failed, so the mechanic said at the time.My main concern for you guys with those engines is that George had no alarm go off and no warning at all until he noticed that his temp gauge maxed out .He had assumed that there would and should be an alarm if the engine over heats .When he asked cummins why there is no alarm they said the design of the engine will not allow for that.....huh????????? Just thought i would share.

2 things: 1.) Mike - any updates on the performance of the 370's? 2.) No alarm sounds bogus to me. The first 6bta I had had the Cummins panel, with high tem and low oil pressure alarms. The second set of these engines I've owned I did my own helm. I used Murphy mechanical "Switchgages" with user-settable alarm points. Bothe setups worked flawlessly. I think your friend could have a separate alarm installed even if Cummins wonn't do it.

I ran the boat down the delaware bay thru the cape may canal then up the coast to long beach island. The trip was about 125 miles. The seas were around 3ft.I was by myself full of fuel around 400 gallons. At 2200 rpms boat would do 20-21 knots at 2500 rpms it would cruise 23 to 24 knots.wide open 3050 rpms was 28knots.once I load the boat we may have to play with the props but right now they are where they should be.I did not fill up with fuel so I do not know how much I burned but yesterday at the marina diesel fuel was at $2.57 gallon
