370 CUMMINS

Post by MIKEFRITZE »

I have been searching the sight for anyone who has 370 cummins or similar hp engines to tell me what kind of fuel burn and cruise speed.I am hoping for 25-26knts while burning 24 GPH +-.I am in the final stages of repower and will probably have sea trial around the end of march.Cannot wait to take boat for a ride.

Mike, You're definately blazing the trail on this one. I don't believe anyone else here is currently running 370 Cummins. When Brian's re-power is complete we can compare 370 Yanmars to the 370 Cummins. Good luck. I did not install any kind of fuel management i will have to do an educated guess. The cost was 91,000 which included all new runing gear w/1 3/4"shafts.new generator+ac,replace a reserve fuel tank, new intakes water+air, new exausts, fuel lines,5 year cummins warranty on the engines which are 370 b reman. The work is being done by Carey Diesel in delaware and they are doing a great job. Also there is no sales tax in delaware

If there is a way for you to post a pic of how they look in the engine compartments, that would be great. Is there alot or alittle room? The cummins b series engines seem to be a very good and reliable motor. You are doing exactly as I would. Good choice Mike

Mike L - here's a picture of my installation. I have the 300 hp 6bts' rather than the 370', but they are the same size. I hope this works:

Fraser, Interesting pic. What's the fan for? What do you cruise at with the 300's? Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

MIKE L The picture posted looks to be the same size as the 370s.Filter +strainers are to your right+left when you go down between the engines very accessible.I am going to install a 6"rd hatch above the dip stick so i will not have to pick up the engine boxes to check oil. Thanks for the picture by time I would figure out how to post a photo it will be time for new engines

The big fans each move around 1800 cfm of fresh air into the engine room. One of the cautions I was given when I repowered was that the standard air intakes on the 33 SF are marginal for diesels. With the fans I don't have any air restriction problems and the temp stays comfortable in the engine room even at cruise. Cruise is right at 20 knots at 2600. I prefer to cruise 2450 and 18 knots fully loaded for a trip (plenty of beer, you know). I'm a little under propped.

Actually, I just changed the directions a bit to try to make it even more simple. I encourage Mike and Frank to both give it a try.

Frazer, looks like a real nice fit. Looks to have plenty of room to work around. Lot more than with the 3208's. If I ever have to, the cummins is the way I would go. Seems that support and part availability is the same as the 3208's. How smooth are they as far as running. I really like the way they sit in the engine compartment. With the 370 hp the boat should scream. I am definitly jealous. I like my 3208's and the 320hp is nice but man, the extra 50 hp is a big plus. Very nice. Can not wait to here what kind of #'s you get Mike..
