I'm a new member, since I just became the extremely happy new owner of a '77 33' convertible that - yes I purchased through EBAY a few weeks back. I was lucky since the boat was only 50 miles from my home. I believe the ethanol scare is really just temporarily hurting resale prices(hopefully)Once people get the tank situation under control (I can't see how the cost impact of tank replacement is all that significant) we'll stop seeing the ridiculous low prices we've been seeing. These boats are incredibly well built by any standard, even 30 years after introduction. THIS SITE IS GREAT and I'm honored to be a new member.

I noticed on the picture of the upper helm that you could still read what the stock trim tab switch said on it. Mine have worn completely away. Does anyone else here have that same tab switch (right under the gear levers) and can still read it? I've always wondered if my switches were re-wired screwy by a previous owner. I have never had tab switches on a boat before that were wired the way mine are. If anybody has that switch and can read the printing on it, can you tell me what it says? Doug, if it were closer to us, I would have already gone to look at it and I'd be trying to snipe it...mulit boat owner or not- make no mistake about it. It just freakin kills me that there we no such deals when I bought my boat. Sean... I think thats an insta-trim switch panel (same as mine) If I did this right, an image should be attached? Your switches should be wired where the left switch controls the right tab and the right switch controls the left tab. Pushing the top's of the switches, should cuase the respective tab (opposite side) to go down... does yours not work like that?

Thanks John! No, interestingly enough on my boat pushing the left switch up makes the port side tab go down, and right side switch is wired to starboard. I know the convention and obviously my boat doesn't follow it. That's why I think it was re-wired that way, unless all the Berts came that way. Actually in some cross/headwinds, I've noticed that lowering the tab on one side actually brings the bow down on that side, not the opposite side, as you would think. I don't really mind having it wired backwards, as long as I know what they are doing. Sean, I don't think that's all that odd of an arrangement. Mine are the same as your's and all the boats I've had in the past were the same also. I would have a hard time if it were wired the way John is showing. I guess I'd rather know what is actually happening with my boat and then be able to anticipate the results based on the laws of physics instead of expecting it to just"push right go right, push left go left". I guess it all depends on what you're used to.

Rich, Congratulations on joining the Bertram family. I watched your boat on eBay, you sure got a steal! I live 2 hours north of you in Northwestern NJ. This is a great site for learning all the ins and outs of your boat. Don't hestitate to ask questions as there are lots of knowledgeable owners that have great insights and experience. Happy Boating!
