fuel tank dimensions
I am trying to locate the dimensions for a 1987 Convertible 315gal fuel tank. I called High Tide Marine but they didn't have it. I am trying to get a head of the ethanol issues. Keith
Keith, Welcome aboard. Where are you located in Boston? There is a fairly large 33 contingency on the North Shore of Mass. You may want to wait it out a little longer. Early indications are that tanks made from mid 1985 and up are ethanol safe. So far, the only Berts with documented issues that I've heard about are the 20's, 25's, and 31's. All3 models were designed and built starting in the 60's. If I had to guess, I'd say your tank will be ok. Keith, Welcome aboard! I have a '90 FBC being repowered in RI and currently have my cockpit off. If you still want to get dimensions, here are two options: 1. I can try to measure for you this weekend and give you my best estimate? 2. Your welcome to come and measure it yourself at Johnson's Boat Works in Cranston, RI. I'll be there all day Saturday and maybe even Sunday this weekend? Let me know. Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Hey Keith, welcome aboard ! I might be looking for a 315 gallon tank too. From everything I've heard, you will probably be okay. Since my boat was built in '85 (they are saying prior to '86), it seems I have a lot more risk. I'm looking for those dimensions too and absolutely need them in order to get a quote. I called SP tanks in NJ and no one has approached them as of yet. Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

Rick / Keith: If you call me on my cell (973-214-4212) this Sunday, I'm planning to be on the boat working and will stop to measure the tank. I'm just so busy up there every weekend, I forget to measure. If you remember to call me when I'm on the boat, I'll do it right then. My recollection is yes. I believe I was looking under the strut pocket in the rear bilge and noticed that the fuel tank was flat across the bottom, but I can double check. You can look under your strut pockets in the generator bilge probably too? Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Rick, Correction, the tank bottom is a V that follows the deadrise of the hull, maybe 6-8" off the bottom of the boat. I dropped a tool in the generator bilge that fell into the strut pocket area. When retrieving it with a flashlight, I noticed that the tank bottom is not flat, but in fact follows the same angle as the deep V. My tank is 24" deep at the sender. Brian, Thanks for taking a look and sorry for delay in getting back. They had to make it that much more difficult huh ? I can't see the bottom of my tank but it's got to be the same. Now we need angles as well as dimensions...this one's not going to be easy ! I can't help think that there's got to be a scrapped 33 out there somewhere that we could use for this kind of research.
