Engine box sound proofing
Engine box sound proofing
Has anyone changed the soundproofing insulation inside the engine box tops and sides? I have had to remove mine due to residue dropping on the engine filters and making a complete mess. I do not, however, have a clue as to the next steps. Considering I want to minimize the sound, I was told to use lead based and then on top of that put soft egg holder type foam. Does this sound reasonable? Also, what is the best material to have minimum sound? What is the best way to stick or attach the material? I would greatly appreciate a heads up to what I should or could do, and especially any pitfalls that I would potentially encounter. Regards

When I repowered, I had to take all the insulation off the underside of the salon floor. I went to Soundown in Ft. Lauderdale and got the under carpet insulation. Man is it quiet! Not cheap, but their stuff is quality. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

I'd be a little worried about that foam breaking down in the heat of the engine room, and leaving you lots of little presents in the bilge to clog up your bilge pumps. I'd stick with the sounddown by itself "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL
