Dumb Question about Diesel Fuel
I'm about to get Same Old Tuna untangled from the dock in New Orleans, and am planning on moving her. However, I haven't been able to find any marinas selling fuel near-by, so I'm going to have to use jerry cans to fill her up before I start the move. I have seven five gallon jugs that I used to power the home generator after the hurricane. If I shake as much gasoline out of the containers as I can (probably an ounce will remain) can I use them to transport diesel?

Robert, In all probability, yes. However, a gas station isn't supposed to put diesel in a can that is the color red , like a gas can.I believe a diesel can would be blue. That said , I would be reluctant to mix any diesel and gas, it can be more explosive than you think when mixed together and probably not good for engine parts, etc. Frank Price

My tractor diesel can is yellow and I think kerosene goes in the blue cans, but not 100% positive. Other option is to stick a rag in can opening when upside down to soak up any remaining gas that won't come out. Also, what if you rinsed the can with a cup of diesel fuel, then drained that out?
