Props

Post by otf »

Does anyone have a set of 20x19 (1 3/8) props they no longer need because of a repower or something else. Just thought I'd look here before looking new.

What engines were you running when on gas? My boat has Crusader 350's in it. When I bough it in the fall it ran poor, since then they have been rebuilt. I am now going off the original specs for a basis to initially set up the props. The props it had on it didn't even match, so they are out.

when I had the MC 340s The props were 23x26. I had them cut down to 22x24 with a med cup. I also have a set of 4 blade 24x24 as spares. I'm running 1 1/2 shafts, but any of the sizes above should do well on the 350 Crusaders. You may need to tweak them a bit. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC 2007 8.1 Crusaders

Scott, Do you have 1 3/8" shafts? If so, you probably have 1:92 gears. In that case a good starting point would be 21 x 18 or 19. Since Gene's boat is much newer I believe he has 2:5 gears which is why his diameter & pitch is so much greater. Al

Scott, Gene's props won't work for you. You wouldn't be able to change the pitch enough. Also, since they were originally 23 inch props, you wouldn't be able to change the diamater either. If you lose to much diamter, you've effectively changed the shape of the prop. Keep looking.

Scott, I agree w/ Al, 21 X 19 no cup is what was on mine with original Crusaders and I still run them today with 454 Merc's. No prob getting to WOT 4400. I still have a spare 20 X 21 in the bilge and to this day have no idea why it was ever put there ! Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

Gene, are you still running 2.5 to 1 gears with your 8.1's? If so, what props are you running? I've got a set of 23 X 26 3 blades in excellent shape that I need to trade for a set of smaller wheels for spares. My 8.1 mercruisers with 2.5 to 1 500 series BW will not turn the 23 X 26 past 3000 so I went to a 22 X 23 4 blade & these run great. I guess the older Borg Warner 72 series slipped a great deal more than the newer style gear? Joe Tomaini 1988 Sportfish Attitude Adjustment II Fort Lauderdale, FL

Joe, I cut the 23x26 3 blades down to 22x24 with a light cup. Next time I have to service the props, I will probably take them to 23x23 as I'm just a tad getting the right numbers at WOT. I still have the 24x24 4 blades as spares. The Stb. 4 blade is unrepairable and I've been looking for a used replacement for a couple years. I'd like to get them back on the boat. Oh..yes I have new Hurth 2.5:1 xmissions. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC 2007 8.1 Crusaders

Thanks for the info Gene. I guess I'll cut my big wheels down for spares as well. Joe Tomaini 1988 Sportfish Attitude Adjustment II Fort Lauderdale, FL

Gene, Just curious. How do you plan on taking a 22 inch diameter prop back to 23 inches?[:D]
