A couple bathroom questions
A couple bathroom questions
In our '77 fbc in the bathroom, right to the right of the shower knobs, there are some wires sticking out of the wall. I was just wondering if any of you have something attached to those wires. Also, on the breaker panel, one breaker is for a shower pump, what is that for? My shower drain just has a hole in the bathroom floor that drains into the bilge, then the bilge pumps throughout the boat pump it out, like bilge water. Next is the bathroom blower, but I havn't figured out where it is located yet. Thanks for all the help guys and as I sort through everything, I'm sure I will come up with more. Justin.

Justin, On my 78 FBC, I have no wires sticking out. The shower breaker & the shower drain both go to a sump box mounted in the (stb) bilge under the hatch outside the head. It's an off the shelf Rule sump with mounted pump. The (frozen) blower is located aft of the porthole in the top of that shelf. Al

My '77 FBC does not have any wires in the wall where the shower controls are. They must have been added by a previous owner. You can get a shower drain box from most any marine supply store they usually come with a standard Rule pump. You sould keep the swower drain out of the bilge water, that soappy water will really start to stink after awhile.

Looking into the cabinet in the galley, to the left of the shower water lines is a very well made teak cover that wires go into, That was my only assumption that it came original on the boat. Ill take a picture if possible today. Also, I have never used the shower so I didn't even think about soap in the bilge. I'm definitely going to put a sump box in there. Thanks guys.

My brand new shower sump box can't keep up with the shower drain and typically overflows some into bilge. Anyone else have this problem? I was going to replace the sump box with the inline shower pumps they now make that you just turn on at the start of shower and off when you're done. Has anyone installed one of these? Bill Dunlop, Maybe your forward bilge smell is soap in the bilge per the above post? Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Yanmar 370's Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Not now, but I'll bet there was at one time. I think what probably happened is that the shower sump over-flowed into the bilge once or twice and the water has evaporated, leaving some soap scum some place you couldn't see or reach and that's what your smelling.
