Tim, I guess if I repowered they would have to come thru the door and be able to have a "A" frame to get the Port side. Stb. would be a straight shot thru the door. But for 2005 , I need to replace the risers and just keep on going I guess. Looking like another 4-6 weeks on my wife, and my Niece will be done with the Naples Dinner Theater sometime in late April I think. so we will have to think about what we are going to do. There are some other school related things coming up over there too, so I'll definitly get there. Should be done by then, I would hope. Gene Dugan

the engines will wit through the door they just have to take one side of the manifolds off...that was the original plan for my boat until they discovered the bulkhead would come off... Tim Stamm Photo Finish 1981 33' Bertram FBC

Tim, Us guys up here in the relatively frigid waters don't need to paint our shafts and srtruts but I've heard you guys down there need to to keep the prolific growth off.My boat had been to Florida a couple times , so someone painted everything, gross! You might want to ask if anyone is not painting them around the marina and get a feel for it. Up here , at the end of the season, my props and shafts and struts looked clean.I had stripped the shafts and one rudder before launch and the rudder with the old bottom paint had some slime on it , the clean one did not. (Sorry Doug, I know you said end of discussion but I just had to discuss this) Frank Price

Now you've got me breaking my own decree! Tim, At the very least don't paint the props. Not that I had ever considered it, but I was speaking with a friend of mine at Haskell & Hall (a local prop shop) a few years ago, and he said that it was actually bad for the props to be painted. I don't exactly remember his reasoning though. It may have been something like the props not being able to breath or something like that. Its fairly warm in your neck of the woods and I know you keep the boat in your backyard. I'd invest in some snorkeling equipment and clean them by hand every so often. Either that or hire a diver to do the job. Shoot, you've got 2 sons. Send them over the side! Can't wait to see what you're numbers look like. I'm going to predict a top-speed of 31 knots when you first splash and bump that up to 32 knots when the 8.1's are broken in. I'll also go out on a limb and predict a 22 knot cruise at 3400rpms with a fuel burn of 30gph. Any other budding Nostrodamas' (sp?) out there? Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth

Doug, I can't remember, does your boat have gas or diesel? If it is gas, do you cruise @ 3400 RPMs? That seems a little much for my liking. I cruise right around 3000 RPMs with a speed of 19 - 21 knots (depends on conditions of course). How much I am actually helped out by my props, shafts or anything else, and how much gas I am burning, I still have yet to figure out. Overall, I am really happy with performance, but I suspect the fuel burn is pretty intense, so I plan on getting a flow meter as soon as I can. On a side note, I think the correct term would be Nostradami (Octopus->Octopi, Nostradamus->Nostradami?). [:D] David Sumich Bertram33.com Forum Administrator

Dave, My boat has gas (unfortunately) and I cruise around 3150-3200rpms and my rpms top out around 4000-4100. Now that I've got the hardtop, my cruise speed is around 18-19 knots. Tim's boat, however, will be a different beast entirely. The 8.1's are rated for 4200-4600rpms. Based on the performance of my buddies 35 Egg, Tim should have no problem getting the max rpms. If that's the case, then his new cruise rpm would be between 3220 (70% of WOT) and 3680 (80% WOT). The 3400rpms I quoted is about what I figure 75% of WOT will be for him.
