Repower cost
Can anyone give me a "ball park" on installation costs of a gas to diesel repower. Just need cost to install and convert tank to diesel. Thanks. Tony

Tony, are you able to use your current shafts, wheels, trans, etc.? I had looked into it and with new 315 Yanmars it was around $60k. But with reman Cummins you could do it for around $45k I have been told. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? BERTRAM PRIDE '07 PLAN TO ATTEND!Mine was around $40k, not including the cost of the engines. I did more than was absolutely necessary to the repower. I would estimate that with better planning and paring down the project list would reduce the cost by as much as $20k. You would need to be VERY organized and involved to pull it off for this price range. Since every boat has its own unique set of problems / circumstances, though, it's those unknowns that can really rear up and bite you in the can.

Tony... While I haven't had to do a conversion, when I was looking for a 33 I considered doing one if I found a good gasser.. I was warned that it is a much bigger job than I had first expected, and might not be just an engine replacement.. ie: With diesels having more lower speed torque the shaft diameter might have to be increased, meaning possible replacement of the stuffing boxes/packing, shaft logs and struts, along with the props of course.
