Gulf King Fishing

Took three friends from Chicago fishing Monday for Kings working an area about 30nm west of home. My friend Capt. Pat ran the deck for the trip keeping the everyone busy with fish. After Pat placed the stringer rig, he began to deployed the first of four ballyhoo, as he turned to deploy the the next line WAM - FISH ON! A schoolie was the first fish of the day. At one point we had 3 smokers on the line, one bit the wire leader off and the other bit a 100lb mono leader off... the third threw the hook at the boat just before being wired. The three anglers never really fished before,(one did 25 years ago), but they did well and boated 5 schoolies and a large Spanish Mac. We had about 30 strikes and 6 boated for the day, not bad for threse guys. It was a great time for these northern boys and one even jumped in for a swim in Gulf. They have already called to come back in July to fish again. Hit some grouper holes both trolling and bottom fishing, couldn't lose a bait, as the gumbo was still in 72' of water. Speaking with another charter captain who was working the same area with us, he couldn't find a grouper bite either, but did great on the kings. He evened picked up a small sail that did a little tail walking show for us. A bad day on the water always beats a good Day at the office! Tight Lines... The one on the other side of the lens. For the record, that is Capt. Pat from Dauphin Island, AL where he ran a 55' Ocean, and fished on the winning billfish team "Team Galatti" (always on ESPN Extreme Billfishing with another friend Capt. Norm Isaac) for 4 years. Pat is a guru on the fish deck and can always find the right rigging to win the tourneys. Pat has joined our billfish team this year. He is also one of the brightest guys you will meet and is very well read. Not all us are bubas there Yankee boy! lol Here is the infamous Capt Ed. Fresh water wash down, a brush and a professional mate running the deck took care of that. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? DO IT NOW... SPACE IS LIMITED!
