Could this possibly mean that you are all enjoying time on your boats? I sure hope so! [8D] David Sumich 33 Megabites Huntington Harbour, CA Forum Administrator

We had a decent weekend weather wise, Doug has finally splashed down and is in the slip(the wife finally put her foot down and ordered the boat in the water!). Felt good to get back in the swing of things, "Good eating, good drinking, good boating, and good friends!"[:D] Of course though,[xx(] it is raining AGAIN!!! I had a good weekend aboard the boat. Finally the weather warmed up a bit and the sun felt great. I went fishing this morning for cod and between the two of us caught four keepers, last night took a couple friends down the annasquam river for a short cruise. These are the first trips out this season for me and I continue to be impressed with the small improvements to the boat. The boat feels much better now, cruising at 20 knots (30 GPH)than last year. The prop re-pitching, head work , engine alignment, rebuilt steering pump, and new cutless bearing have all made subtle but noticable differences, the boat just moves a little easier and smoother, so I'm pretty happy with it. A pretty good weekend finally. Frank Price

As Bill previously mentioned, I am finally in the water. I had finished the hull late Sat afternoon and was working on polishing the bridge on Sunday morning when I realized that 10 minutes after I went over a spot the dust and dirt started re-acumumlating. I made the decision to splash later on that afternoon (it helps when your Dad is the Club's Yard Master) just to keep the boat from getting any more dirt on it. I can finish the rest in the water. Both engines and the gennie started right up so knock on wood so far so good! Frank, Sorry I missed your call yesterday. The wife and I were on our way to the Sox game. Glad to hear everything's going well for you. Would it be possible for you to bring your idle adjustment tool down to the club some night this week? One engine idles about 100rpms lower than the other. Wednesay night would be best for me but I'm flexible. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Doug, I'd be happy to bring down the tool but for a simple idle speed adjustment no special tools are needed, it's just a throttle stop screw. The tool I have is to fit the idle mixture adjustment screws. The reason I figured Bill needed it was because he had his carb rebuilt and the chances of the idle mixture being adjusted perfectly will be pretty slim. Wednesday eve won't work for me because I still have the tool on my boat so will have to swing by there first. Probably the best thing to do is plan on possibly thursday night or this weekend sometime. I'll give you a call before then to set something up . Frank Price

Tim, I think you're right, it's the sole. Actually, I'm surprised it's doing as well as it is , cosidering the bottom needs a strip job and my rudders are out about a quarter to a half inch. On my last boat I got another 4 miles an hour out of it by careful adjustments to running gear and engines. I bet next season I'll see similar gains in efficiency to this year, after the bottom is clean. Frank Price

Tim, The rudders need to be aligned , like the front wheels on a car. There are differing opinions on where the alignment should be set(toed in or out) I beieve the b31 guys prefer their boats set up with the rudders slightly out at the rear edge, like mine are now. Bertrtam, in my owners manual, specifies setting them up straight with no toe in or out. I just bought new rudder bearings from Danny at high tide(really cool plastic and stainless, by the way) and thought when I change the bearings , I'd adjust the rudders slightly to make them more to spec. Of course it may handle worse in some conditions , or it may handle better. It's worth a try and it should go through the water a little easier with them straight. Frank Price
