Dinghy and tieing it down.

Post by justintime2 »

If you don't mind me asking, how or were did you mount the tie downs for your dinghy. I just bought an 8 foot 2 inch Mercury from Defender. I am not crazy about putting a hole in the deck, but I feel it's the only way to do it , is to add two tie downs. the third will be the forward cleats. I want to do something like Doug did.

I have an 8'6" AB. I mounted a small cleat just forward of the windshield. The dinghy fits perfectly upside down (with the pontoons facing aft) between the cleat I installed and the cleats for the bow lines/anchor rode.

Did you need to take down the head liner for a backer plate? I would really not like to do that, it in perfect shape. Most likely I will be mounting on some sort of foam , right side up. So thinking two tie downs. I will know better when it arrives from Defender tomorrow. I have build an addition to the upper helm, a place to mount my raymarine 12 Display, and 10inch Ipad. ( for Navionics) Bluetooth radio ( round ) and trim tab display(round) I will take a few pics when done Thanks Doug

Justin, I did not take down the headliner. I put a stainless backing plate over the headliner and used acorn nuts to tighten down. It looks pretty good and has never given me an issue in the 14 years since I installed it.

Ok thank you, I will take a look tomorrow, the dinghy arrived today, had to drive to Richmond and pick it up. about an hour drive. Looks good in white. I will take some measurements and see where I end up. Thanks again Doug Thinking about putting a connection point on my hard top ( metal work) to put some sort of removable boom to raise and lower it. Just a thought...
