Looking at a mid 70's 35' with what I think is a fuel or fuel tank issue. Boat was re-powered and re-fit about 12 years ago with fuel injected 8.1 liter, and used very little since then (about 200 hours). Current owner has had problems keeping the boat running and I've seen receipts for thousands of dollars to dispose of old gasoline, tune ups, and cleaning injectors. I have been told that when they did the re-power the fuel tank was not replaced. After reading the many posts here and elsewhere concerning ethanol related fiberglass tank problems, my guess is that the tank is deteriorating and will need replacing at a cost of $5,000 to $10,000. Several questions and appreciate any input: 1) is $5k to $10k realistic to replace tank? 2) what is the likelihood of engine damage from running the bad gasoline?. I can buy the boat right, and if I go further I'll have everything surveyed. Or, is this one I should just walk away from? Thanks in advance for any advice.

10-15k is a more realistic estimate. When you get the tank out you'll end up doing struts, shafts etc as there will be easy access. Odds of engine damage is a tough call - 50/50? Our 75B tank turned out to be fine, problem was in the aircraft quality fuel lines were breaking down because of the ethanol! Got to tank & lines in time & engines were fine. Fiberglass breakdown usually leads to catastrophic engine failure. Valves stick open & kiss the pistons. Good luck- they are great boats.

Mike, I had a custom 250 Gal Tank made in NJ for $3,100.00 and did it myself, total cost was around 5K when I was done. It was a lot of work to get the deck out..... Good Luck, you will love the boat. Mike
