So I know this boat, the owners to say hello to and the boat yard that takes care of the boat is owned by a good friend of mine. what is the general consensus on the Marine Power 6.5 Diesels in it?

Those are a pretty poor engine from what I've heard. They are a marine conversion of the Isizu in Chevy trucks. They work pretty well in trucks but don't have a great reputation in boats. The listing tells something when it states that one engine was replaced in 2013 and has 50 hours on it and the other has 900. Those should be barely broken in at that point.

I agree with Frank.. I have never heard anything complimentary about these engines. My advice.. engines are the heart of a powerboat... stick with the likes of Yanmar and Cummins. Cat 3208s are OK as long s they aren't above 375 HP, and Cat 3116s or 3126s are rarely heard of in our Berts.

I can't tell from the pictures but I do think these are the 6.5s which overall were terrible engines. The Isuzu diesel is a 6.6L which has been a fantastic engine for GM. I do not have any experience with the 6.6 in marine applications but I will say the people who have had problems with the Duramax 6.6 have been the ones that have installed the programmers that increase fuel mileage, horsepower and torque. If this has been done in a marine app to these engines I can see where they would become much less reliable with the increase in the fuel pressures. Scott 1981 46B Dealer's Choice Edisto Beach, SC
