Has anyone changed their exhaust from the factory veloci-jet exhaust to a more traditional straight transom exhaust? Just wondering if there is any noticeable difference(good or bad)in the level of diesel fumes in the cockpit area while trolling with a straight exhaust? Dan finchasersportfishing.com

Dan was your boat a gas conversion? I thought the factory diesel boats didn't have mail slots? I may be wrong. What year is your boat?

My boat, a 1983 B33 FBC originally had Cat 3208s, 260HP, and came with the Velocijet exhausts. In aprox 2000 she was repowered with Cummins 6B 315 HP and as far as I can tell the exhausts were not change in any way.

Mine was a conversion, the exhaust now exit the transom. I rebuilt the entire exhaust 3 years ago I do get the station wagon effect in the cockpit and can get it up to the bridge.

I have a 33 SF with 3208's and it has the "mailslots". I was told they were used to keep the majority of the fumes from backing up into the cockpit.

35 bert with traditional straight wet exhausts with no mail slots. No station wagon effect but my diesels also have very little emissions as they are the newer qsb electronic cummins. Fished on another 35 bert with larger newer cats, 480hp each or so with traditional exhausts. Slight diesel tinge in the air in certain directions but nothing serious.

Our 1982 35 with 3208's has mail slots. Can't comment on fumes. We never spend time in the cockpit while running.
