Terribly sad news.....

Post by IRGuy »

I frequently visit the Bertram 31 web site as I know others here do as well. This morning I was stunned to read the following post from Captain Patrick McCreary, the forum founder and webmaster... -------------------------------------------------------------- Goodbye My Friends, My time on earth is soon coming to an end due to a terminal illness. I wish to thank everyone for their friendship and support of this corner of the web known as Bertram 31. I go in peace knowing that this web site will continue on and our sandbox will gather old and new together to celebrate one of the best boats ever made. I'm in good hands with my family and being well taken care of. I'll soon be sipping a clear with UV and Walter and we'll talk over good times. Farewell and best wishes, Regards, Capt Patrick McCrary ------------------------------------------------------- I met Captain Patrick only once, but, like with this site, you don't need to meet the other members even once to consider them friends. We are collectively "Friends who have never met". fair winds and calm seas my friend. May you rest in eternal peace

Frank, Thank you for sharing. It is truly sad news. I owned a 31 for at least 15 years before the Roamin' Beauty and frequented the site daily. Cap't Patrick never missed a beat in his responses. I am deeply saddened by the news. Thanks Capn' T 33'Bert SF 3116 Cats Hyannis MA.

Frank, That is indeed sad news.I suppose it's always the inevitable but some people you just think will be around forever. The 31 world will miss him sorely and so will many others. A great talent and , though I never met him, a great guy that you just can't find a bad thing to say about.

Captain Patrick McCreary, known as Captain Pat, who founded and managed the Bertram 31 web site for many years passed away this morning. He was a special gentleman who never failed to share his knowledge of Bertram construction and boatbuilding in general with anyone who sought it. He will be dearly missed by those who visited his website. Rest in peace my Captain!

Frank, Thanks for the update. I visit that site quite often. He created a community of a great bunch of guys. He was a very special individual whose presence will be missed very much. Thankfully, his legacy will live on through bertram31.com.

Sad news. I met Cap Pat once at a Bertram Rendezvous in Newport RI. Really nice guy. We were sitting in the cockpit of my 33 snacking on shrimp cocktail my wife had put out. Can't believe that was 11 years ago. He'll be missed.

As noted on the front page of this site, I would not have likely made the page had it not been for seeing Pat's page, and getting some pointers from him. R.I.P Capt.
