Quick question: The alcohol we put into our stoves, is that just regular denatured alcohol that we buy at Home Depot ? Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

I think you're a minority of one. Most of us have electric stoves.

Going to start using NUWAVE induction double burner cooktop. I was using a 2 burner electric coil top. It wasn't great but got the job done. Thanks Capn' T 33'Bert SF 3116 Cats Hyannis MA.

The alcohol works for me for the 6 days a year that I use it. Having trouble finding alcohol though... Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

My 82 SF has an electric/alcohol stove but I have never used the alcohol side. My father had a marina for over 30 years in NJ and he always said he would never use an alcohol stove because of the danger of fire.

I know of a case where someone fired up their alcohol stove after refueling it but accidentaly spilled some fuel on the counter top while refueling. When they lit the stove the spilled fuel caught fire, but since alcohol burns with almost an invisible flame they never noticed it until the nearby wood items started to burn. Luckily the boat was at her slip and the fire dept saved the hull but the cabin interior was ruined. I have used alcohol stoves while mountain climbing but with great care.

To answer my own question, yes, it's regular denatured alcohol. Did a little research last night. And yes, if you're using it, you better be careful because it does flame up pretty quick. The electric burners are much better but while on a mooring or some place without power the alcohol is just fine. Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA

Gerard, Thanks you are looking good yourself I remember seeing you too. I was on my to picking the family at the fuel dock. We were 12 people that day!!!! I didn't mount the NUWAVE the single fits on the counter it works so well I ordered the double which I am hoping has the same foot print from front to back on the legs. I will let you know when it gets here. The single burner just wasn't enough The double was $199.00 no shipping or tax. You have to by special pots to take advantage of the induction. A 7 pcs set costs $69.00. Easy to find on line. Thanks Capn' T 33'Bert SF 3116 Cats Hyannis MA.

Thanks Gerard, The stove is working perfectly, just need some alcohol which I learned is just regular denatured alcohol that you can buy anywhere. The last time I bought it (about 10 years ago), it was labeled "Stove Alcohol" at worst marine. I'll be in OB Friday night, Mike Benjamin band at the Ritz. Wifey and I will be dancing to 'em, when you see the uncoordinated lousy dancer on the floor, that'll be me. Rick Ticket 85 SF Merc 454 MPI's Falmouth, MA
