1982 Bertram 28 riser and manifold replacement

Post by Blcdog »

This may be the wrong place to post this question, but.... I found a 1982 28 Bertram nearby priced very well - $9k asking- and it has Mercruisers in need of risers and manifolds. Thinking if I bought it really right and added say another $2k for the engine work, would I be foolish in trying to revive her? Or should I spend a little more for something all done? Looking for a water ride.

I'd buy one that's already done.

I'm with Doug. I believe you'll come out cheaper buying one that's ready to go.

$9k is hard to pass up but I think you guys are right. I'd rather be on the water as soon as buy one rather having to delve into the unknown. The search continues.... Looking for a water ride.

There seems to be a lot of 28's around for sale. I would think you could get a nice boat at a very good price right now.

I would consider it, try negotiating the price down. If you were considering a project, there is a 28 for 4900 that needs in southern CT/NY that doesn't look so bad. 1986 33sf 330 hp Merc. (x2) 8 O'clock Braintree Ma.

I don't mind a project at all. Just concerned that a project doesn't break the bank to where I can get out of it relatively unscathed. On the other hand, do I just wait for for the 33sf I really want to show up. I know the price will be higher in all aspects for the SF, so I am toying with taking a baby step with the 28. A lot fewer choices in the SF market as opposed to 28's which seem plentiful. Pasco's opinion the the 28 is underwhelming as well. Looks like I'm moving up to at least the 30. Blc, check Certified Sales in Warwick. They have a 1986 gas 33SF and have it listed for 15K. Its been at 30K forever. They have owned the boat for at least 10 years as it was their personal fun boat.
