Burning boathouse at Coast Guard Station Menemsha

Post by Brian Davin »

At the Cape rendezvous, Bill and Angela Dunlop were telling me about this fire out on Martha's Vineyard back in July. Apparently, they decided to go to Vineyard Haven that weekend instead of Menemsha by chance. Lucky for them! My brother who is a retired Coast Guard captain forwarded me the atteched two links .... amazing shots and footage! Brian, Here's an amazing photo of the Menemsha fire. http://www.piersystem.com/go/doc/778/777655/ Also an article, photos and video. http://www.mvtimes.com/marthas-vineyard ... hp?id=1551 Jack

Forgot to mention, we went down to Menemsha Harbor last week when we were staying in Oak Bluffs and saw the remains of the building and pier. I spoke to the Harbor Master who said 10-12 boats were burned and 6-8 were a total loss. Fortunately, no one was hurt!

The wind was blowing hard that day, good thing it wasn't blowing the other direction. The damage could have been even worse. Someday we'll make it to Menemsha.......
