Do any of you CAT 3208 owners know the part number and/or a supplier for the mechanical tachometer drive shaft on a 3208? This is the drive assembly located on the front of the engine under the heat exchanger. Thanks, Ron

Ron - my engines have an adapter form Glendinning Controls....i don[t know what the original CAT part number was - but - i've learned that Glendinning and other engine control mfg'rs often provide these parts to the engine guys. Those guys at Glendinning or Aetna (the guys that make the digital tachs) will almost certainly be able to help you get whatever part you need. I've head these things break all the time though i've bene lucky. The guys at Aetna make a magnetic sensor that generates pulses as the teeth inb the flywheel go past the sensor. The bellhousing has a plugged port that this thing would just screw into...then of course, you'd need to install the digital tachs - but - that would be a utlimate (if expensive) solution. You'd then get rid of all wearing mechanical parts and you'd have dead-nuts on tachs. Joe

Ron, This is what they had to say over at boatdiesel: It is the bolt that holds the gear on to the injection pump shaft. Available from Cat. # 9N1856

Thanks Doug and Joe. Joe, Aetna's web site has some useful info, and I will call them for more specifics. Doug, thanks for posting to Boat Diesel for me. That part is close, but don't think it is exactly what I need, although I need to do a little more exploring on the tach drive assembly to be sure. Your info has certainly pointed me in the right direction. Thanks again. Ron
