Another 35 refit long post

Post by Fryedaddy »

I've posted that I was building my 35 before, but really didn't start it. Work and other things got in the way. Really starting now. Things that have been done: tore out salon bulkhead.(engines wuold not fit nor forklift to get them out), engines and beds removed, front and rear engine room bulkhead removed (rotten or broken). I've also tore out most of the wiring. Was suprise to see some of the 120v wires hot but not attached to anything. I have hired someone to over see and do the things that I can't. Like I may have to replace a stringer and the new beds. Oh some information on what is changing. I going with 370 6bta Cummins and zf 220a 1.75 to 1 gears. From 6bta 300hp and 1.5 gears. Mainly because that it should be a direct fit. I will have to go from 1.5 shafts to 1.75 shafts. I am told that the 1.5" shaft is going to be on the edge. As far as the struts, can I just replace the shaft hub and keep the same length and angle? I also would like some recomandations on companies that make struts. Did a search and no companies showed up on this board. Anyway will keep posting updates and pics. Fryedaddy

I would keep the same trans ratio (1.5:1) and I wouldn't change the shaft size. The 370B's are actually 355hp. That way you could save some money on the shafts and props.

Good luck on your project. Buck Algonquin is a major manufacturer of all running gear hardware. Here is a link for one seller. Al http://www.deepblueyachtsupply.com/buck ... dware.aspx

Frydaddy, I think you're talking about thin-walled strut bearings, that may work depends on the diameter of the strut barrell. That may work if you didn't already have thin-walled bearings to get you to the 1.5" you had. I had to have new struts when I repowered, the yard ordered them from the local prop-shop and I think it was about $1200 for both, that may help as a benchmark for what to pay. As far as your setup 370's with 1.75to1, I think you'll be very happy. In conversations with our local Cummins guy that's what he said he's found to be the best setup for a B35. That being said, if you're watching pennies Doug's advise is right on. Take some pictures, keep us posted, ask questions, and from my own experience don't add up the reciepts.... br,
