Welcome Butch, That's the one project I haven't done on my '72 B35, I've got a lot of crap on the shelf over the water tank and won't replace it until I have too.... That being said I think you'd need to remove or cut up the shelf to get at the water tank. I have a drain on my tank which sits even with the stringers so I'd think it sits on top of the stringers. The worst part of the project will be getting to the tank and what you have to move. If you get into it, I'd love some pictures and thoughts. As for a replacement, I'd think plastic or fiberglass would be a good choice. I'd only go back with aluminum if it was easy to get to and replace. br, JohnD

Kevin, already been crazy converted that tank twice first time for gas ( needed it) second time for diesel (didn't needed it)have 25 gals.water port side outboard my gen set sits star side front of motor (no lower station) original water tank started to leak (normal for 35 berts from the 70'S )Plan to do total refit below deck this winter Pull motors, gen set, replace some wiring, new plumbing new hot water heater new water tank , better lighting, paint everything ,move a/c units to outboard front of port motor, hopefull this will last another 35 years. If I start fishing more than 100 miles offshore I'll put extra fuel in the stern or where the batteries and a/c units were. thanks for your input Butch

Butch... Welcome aboard.. we seem to be getting quite a few B35s here.. our family keeps on growing. I second Al's suggestion about getting a plastic water tank from Ronco. I bought both my holding tank and water tank from them. Very nice people to work with and I have learned that they actually make tanks for quite a few other companies who simply act as middle men and mark their prices up. I suggest you go to their web site and look at the list of available "standard" tanks. When you find one that fits the space you have then make a sketch of where you want the fittings to be placed. They will install them for you, and as I recall they didn't charge for the 3 or 4 fittings I wanted, but they did charge about $25 for an "inspection port". When the tank arrived I found all that was is a standard round plastic deck inspection port they install. You can save some $$ and install your own when you get the tank in place. Glad to have you "officially" aboard!
