No Steering?

Post by Gunny »

Well put the old girl overboard and No steering Wheel goes round and round put no move the rudder? H-21 Hynautic reservoir is full and pressure at 25 PSI no leaks I can find! Any suggestions? Thanks

Try some light rapping on the reservoir-valve while turning the wheel. Maybe a stuck check valve. Some light tapping on the helm unit might be useful too.

I just went through this a month ago. Take a look at hynautic's website. I ended up having to do their priming procedure as outlined on the site. Afterwards someone at the marina told me "sometimes" just boosting the air pressure temporarily works. Not sure I like the idea of possible forcing a leak, but an idea. I think this was the link I used http://ww2.seastarsteering.com/PDFs/182000-A.pdf

Both good suggestions! never thought about tapping the reservoir valve or helm unit, I will give it a try this weekend. The failure really surprised me since the system was fine when I laid her up for the season,Not really looking forward to purging the entire system.
