Shower stall location

Didn't some of the 33 FBC have a shower stall instead of the curtain? If so what was the layout? I wonder if it would be possible to add one by removing the closet in the vee birth? Buzz

Buzz, Starting in 90 the FBC's came with a stal shower. Bertram eliminated the after half of the hanging locker in the v-berth. The head is set up with the stall shower against the mid-ships bulkhead where your toilet is. They moved the toilet to the space vacated by the locker.

Doug, thanks I don't think I'll be remodeling my head. That would be more trouble than it's worth. Buzz

Not having a stal shower is the main complaint I have with my boat. But I wouldn't use it much anyway because I don't overnight on the boat that often. If the boat market wasn't so bad I think I would move up to a 37. Buzz

I will admit that the stall shower was a pretty big factor in my decision to by my boat.Use it all the time.

I am envious of you guys with the shower stall. I'm sure all us have read the Pasco comments about the poor shower or lack of facility's on the early SF's. This winter I installed a hot/cold shower set at the port side back deck to shower out on the transom. I just replaced the existing head shower H/C fresh water lines, ran them along the port side behind and under the aft deck pannels. I also had to replace the fresh water pump to keep the old weak one from cycling on and off every couple of minutes with a new Shureflow. What a differance that made and now I can shower without the mess in the head.

Cliff, that's a good idea. I already have the cold water wash down in my cockpit. I would only need to run a hot water line. Buzz

Having the '90 FBC model, I have the stall shower which definitely is a nice feature. It's as Doug described. You lose one of the two closet doors in the V-Berth area.

Hi Buzz, If you do I would recommend using the flexable reinforced clear PVC tubing 1/2" inside diameter and ss hose clamps over a barbed connector. I thought about getting fancy and running copper or cpvc or some type of hard plastic like what came from the factory, but why make things harder than we need to. The flexable tubing is fine, just make sure it is the reinforced type for hot water. I guess because of the extra volumn of water in the system now the original FWP continued to cycle. I put in the Shurflo Extreme Series pump and stopped that and is really a nice improvmemt to the fresh water system. It's now more like at home demand. Navy showers are part of the deal though because you can realy go through a lot of water in no time if your not careful about it. Thats why I am working on getting the dockside water inlet working.

I ran a hot water line to the cockpit. I had some left over i/2" quest pipe like was installed form the factory and used it. It will be a nice touch to wash the salt off when we are at anchor. My fresh water pump has already been replaced and I did't need a new one. Thanks for the idea. Buzz

When I lived on the eastern shore of MD my wife and I would fly down to the airport in Morehead City, walk to the habors. Nice part of the world. I think Dale Earnheart had a Sport Fish at one of the marinas then.

Cliff, Dale Earnheart's boat was here sometimes. Where do you boat out of now. Buzz

Buzz, Its hard to believe but due to job transfer I'm land locked at a lake in central Missouri. It is a large lake though, more shore line than the State of California and 120' deep at the East end called Lake of the Ozarks. One of the reasons I bought the SF model is that I can truck it to St. Louis without removing anything and from the Mississippi River move it to just about anywhere in the future. I would like to get back to the Chesapeak Bay but you have to go where the job is. I'm just glad I have someplace to boat at all. I don't know what I would do if the request came down to move to a mountain state. In the meantime the boating is decent enough. Boat is under cover and on a lift year round. Makes the care and maintenance a breeze. There is even a 31 Bertram at my dock and a 53' Hatteras across the cove. So at least I'm not the only boat out if its natural habitat.
