Microwave removal

After taking care of a number of higher priority items I am getting to some of the mundane stuff. Has anyone removed the microwave under the galley cooktop? Look as I have, it is not apparent how this thing is installed. I would like to fit a new working unit to be powered by Franks transplanted genny. That is a sweetheart compared to the Onan. My recollection is that you unscrew the stove from above, lift that off and there is an opening below stove to lift the microwave up through. Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Yanmar 370's Never Say Never Guilford, CT (Homeport) Kinnelon, NJ (Home)

Yup. Got to take the stove out and the panel from under the stove. Tilt the microwave back a little and lift it out. There are a couple wood blocks in there to keep it from sliding around, you will have to take off to move it. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Gene, If you or anyone is interested, I removed my stove all together and replace it w/a 2 burner 110v cook top. I shortened the counter top and just placed a small microwave on the counter. I was able to put an decent sized recliner chair at the end of the shortened counter for more seating area. If anyone is interested I can post a few pics. Ken

Ken... I would very much like to see some pics! I am in the initial stages of redoing my complete main cabin.. am replacing the port panel now, and adding some drawers and storage there, and will be ripping out all the crappy stbd cabinets soon. I want to minimize cabinetry and maximize floor space if I can. If you find it easier, feel free to email them to me... the more the better! Thanks!

Frank, I'd be glad to send a bunch of pics....also, I replaced frig, a new ss sink and mounted a new 16k BTU Cruise-aire A/C unit under that new sink. It was very easy to access A/C unit, wiring, condesate drain, plus run new ductwork. There is a ton of unused space there as well.Plus I didn't want A/C unit in bilge area just aft for companionway stairs. I'll take'em and send'em tonight. I'm working on trying to get new fuel tank spec'ed out so I can order it. Forgot who, someone's great idea to make up plywood template to verify my measurements and check clearances. Also re-upolstered pull-out couch on port side of cabin.(Anyone's 33 come w/pull-out couch ??? Thanks Ken

Hi Doug, When looking at pictures of 33FBCs it seems the cockpit-to-cabin sliding door and windows arrangment has changed over the years. I was just wondering my foldout couch (which opens like a futon) was original to the boat. I bought "Blue Chip" from the original owner, but he is no longer available to answer questions. Have a great summer, and thanks ...Ken

I have a brochure from 1986 that clearly shows a couch in the salon that is described as being a pullout. Also, I know Ron has had his 81 FBC for a long time and it still has the original pullman sofa (re-upolstered).

Easy out for the microwave. Now armed with accurate dimensions the search starts for a new unit to fit. Thanks all for the help.
