Does anyone know of a better lockset for the cabin door,other than the perko ones that only seem to last a short time,also maybe to a get a little increase in security at the same time??? Thanks!

Try doing a search this topic, it has been talked about before but I can't remember what everyone did. I ordered my lockset from High Tide and it was very pricey. Buzz

I believe it was Al who had a link for a place with high quality door locks. They are available. Bill, I think you're talking about the slider locks, the sportfish uses a more common latch assy, like a mini home type. Perko made the originals and are still available but there is a brand that replaces them made of all stainless. Al?

As I can unfortunately attest to, those locksets give you no security at all. A quick crowbar to the door is all some scumbag needs to be in your boat. That door will just warp when it is pried on. But that being said, I replaced mine with the standard Pergo maybe 3 years ago and it is still doing okay.

Well either the owner of that Ebay site I mentioned above is a Bertram33.com member or something else happened..and I'm not sure what! That same lock-set that was selling for $19.99 on his site this afternoon is now @ $69.95..! So much for being a good neighbor....I should have bought it last week..

Sean is right, there is no real security but the real problem with the Perkos is that they are made from chrome plated zinc, which will not last in the marine environment. They aren't cheap either which makes me think I'd rather spend the $ for the stainless ones.

I think a Hasp and Padlock is the way to go...thats what I am going to next. KIDDING!!!

To All; I put on a hasp and combinaton lock, both brass. Don't be the fanciest boat on the row and you will be overlooked by the next bandit. Capt LuLu

I have 2 sets of the Perko lockset and send them back to Perko every time they break (annual event) and they fix it as it has a "Lifetime warrenty". I have to have done this about 10 times now. It is just so stupid that the little piece that always breaks inside the lock set is of a poorer metal material.
