Anyone noticing some crappy things going on with the site? SPAM, fake members, slowness, strange behavior? I have been noticing odd stuff too. I just had to fix a bunch of stuff that I have no idea how it got mucked up. I think there are evil forces at work to be sure. I have no idea why anyone would give two figs as to what we do here as far as sabotage goes, but regardless, they are out there. I just removed a member that had the title "Fleet Admiral", which of course, there is only one of - me. That is not very comforting.

When I first got on the website this morning (at work) I got a pop up from my anti-virus that a downlaod virus had been blocked. Last month there were a number of posts from bogus members that I kept deleting. I tried sending you an email from the site, but that function seems to be down again. Any chance you could set me up to delete the offending bogus members?

I did get that email Doug. I can't set you up to delete members, but I did delete the bogus members. I have been keeping up on that aspect of things.

I ever met someone that admitted to creating a computer virus I think I would beat them to death with their own keyboard![:(!]

When I signed in Bertram 33 tonight I got a pop up from Norton telling me it stopped a downloader virus. Some of those other boat owners must be jealous and they are trying to blow up our site!

When I tried to sign on Monday evening I found the process so slow I gave up. I just assumed too many of you were already on. Frank B -

There is definitely a virus on the site that is affecting PC computers. It will come in the form of telling you that Internet Explorer needs to install a component from a supposed trusted site. If you see this dialog, just dismiss it. If you have already accepted it, you are infected and need anti-virus tools to remedy. Personally, I suggest pctools.com, for good functionality and affordibility. I don't know how some piece of crap got their virus on our site, but I am on the case now.

OK, I spent almost all day fixing the site. I think I now have it back to a safe and operational state. I will keep up on it to make sure everything is going OK, and I will see if there is more I can do to ensure a safe site.

Is this virus something that Norton AV would catch? My computer at the office has been weird lately, I wonder if I picked up some hacker as$hole's bug. I looked at the site earlier today (maybe 4PM EST), and it said I was logged in as the "Administrator." Lots of new buttons appeared such as buttons to lock things, delete things, and create new forums (I resisted the temptation to abuse this sudden and unexpected website power). But the forums were all completely frozen, nothing worked. So I know something is/was wrong... but right now it seems to be working completely normal again. Capt Pat had to upgrade his site a while back because of these pricks, I hope that isn't the fix here too David, if there is anything we can do to help please ask "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL [img]

I think we wre posting at the same time. Hate it when that happens. Can you tell me which virus it was? I'm still wondering about my work computer. Suddenly now when opening an ie explorer window, the ie explorer program itself freezes for at least a minute. VEry weird "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL [img]
