Blinds or Curtains

Post by buzzk »

The curtains in my boat are getting near the end of their life. Has anyone installed blinds in their boats. If so how do you like them and how do they compare in price to the curtains. Buzz

I have had two sets of blinds in the boat after I took out the curtins. The first set were cheap plastic ones just to see if I would like them. After about a year I took them out and got some nice wooden blinds form Home Depot. I mounted them on the outside of the window cut out and left them full width (I did not cut them like the angle of the back end of the windows). This way you can raise and lower the blinds as necessary. I like them a lot better than the curtins, but if I had it to do over I might consider using the accordion style cloth blinds instead of wooden slats. Jeff Now and Then

Just posted this on another thread too: I replaced mine last year with black aluminum blinds (Levolor I think). I got the idea from Bill's old '89. I like them much better as the cabin feels more spacious. They were a brand new design that had 1" slats, but when you open them, every 2nd one moves together with the 1 before, creating a 1 1/2" to 2" opening between each slat. For the front window I have a black texaline mesh cover (see through) and also a white solid canvas cover when I need privacy at night. My windows are tinted but there is no way the A/C could keep up with the heat of summer if I did not have blindes and a white windshield cover. Jeff Now and Then

My windows are also tinted. Neither could my A/C keep up in the summer without closing the curtains at the dock at my house. When my A/C dies I'm going with a larger unit. When I'm out fishing, I usually leave my curtains open and the A/C works fine. We live on a creek and the water at my dock gets very warm during the summer. I close the curtains at the dock and the A/C works fine. When we travel the A/C works fine at the docks in areas where the water doesn't get as warm. Buzz
