Sea trial/surveyor

I had a pre-purchase survey done on my 1977 FBC, and, to be honest, the surveyor was horrible. Without naming names, it is fair to say that he was so inept that I am now suspect of any criteria, or lack thereof, that the SAMS and ABYC pretends to adhere to. I understand there is little regulation on the industry, but one expects there to SOME level of competence. At any rate, that being said, can anyone recommend a surveyor from Connecticut? I would just like a sea trial with a surveyor that is very knowledgeable with Bertrams. No more, no less. Any suggestions?

If no one from this site knows of anyone try the 31 Bertram web site. I believe there are some guys from Connecticut that frequent that site. You may want to try the Bertram 25 site too. Maybe they will know of someone. Buzz buzzk 1988 Bertram 33 FBC Buzz Off Morehead City, NC

Doug, Sorry for the confusion. I do currently own a 1977 FBC. I had a pre-purchase survey done, but not a sea trial because the engines were dead and not worth "fixing up". I got the boat for dirt cheap, bought some engines, and now just want a professional to go through the boat (a professional who knows what they are doing) and check all the systems for me. I hope that clears things up.

Bishop, What part of the world are you located in? I know a few who do Bertrams well. Charlie

Sure does. You can try my cousin: http://www3.shore.net/~yachtsrv/ He's got one guy that works for him. His name is Bon Gallagher. Both are very good. They do most of their work in the New England area. Bob has surveyed both of my Bertrams (this one and my old 28).
