radar arch on 35 bert

I have a radar arch on my 35 bertram right now and do a lot of slow trolling for salmon. I have been told the weight of the arch( not sure how much but it is pretty heavy) is making me roll alot harder when trolling in the trough. does anyone know if it will make a big difference in the roll action if I removed it? Thanks ahead for any info, Crabby

Crabby, Sure, anything mounted high on the boat will make a difference in roll. Is it enough to really matter? That's kind of a subjective thing. You will notice a slight difference but let's face it, it's got a deep V hull and she's gonna roll no matter what. My 33 Sportfish is about a foot less tall than a 33 FBC. I can see the difference at the dock when a wave comes in , how much less my boat will roll compared to a FBC but when I'm out fishing with Bill Dunlop on his FBC I couldn't tell you it rolls any worse than mine. Seems fine to me.

I think most of these arches are relatively light weight and the additional roll you may introduce to the boat would be measured in less than 1 degree. Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

Thanks for the reply guys. I agree with both of you, and other opinions are always very helpful, Thank you, Crabby

P.S. The reason for the post was ever since I've had the boat with the arch people were constantly telling me how much the extra weight of the arch was making my boat roll so much more. thanks again, crabby

Well that just goes to show you what "people" know. I have a similar group of "people" at the club I belong to. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

The arch has very little effect. Now do you have a 200 pound radar unit bolted to the arch? Charlie

Your lucky to have your open array up there on the arch. It will give you an excellent reading and well worth having it mounted up there. Arches and arrays or raydomes don't make a bit of difference in the way these boats roll while sitting still. Ya, they roll a bit, but it's not a 60 ft boat, it is what it is and it aint that bad.
