I just became an owner of my first Bertram..It's only a 20' Bahia Mar but I am happy just the same.. I wanted to express my appreciation to someone I met from Marblehead who apparently is on this site who helped me quite a bit..I know he owns an original 20 Bahia Mar and I also believe he said he had a 33.. I followed him home one day about two weeks ago and asked him about the Bahia Mar he was trailering behind his car..I figured he thought I was some kind of idiot following him for about 4 miles through all his left and rights to his house. When I finally introduced myself he acted quite enthusiastic about my questions regarding his boat and invited me to jump aboard. As his family piled out of the car from the long trip back from Nantucket he graciously gave me some of his time as I told him about my plans to buy an exact boat..He told me what to look out for including the dreaded glass tank/ethanol issue and other items..He couldn't have been more helpful and was a major factor in me being able to negotiate a great deal on my Bahia Mar. I am terrible at remembering names and I am hoping this will locate him to tell him "thanks". Someday I hope to return the favor or at least buy him a beer.. Ray

Ray, Welcome aboard. Not sure whom you spoke with, but it sounds like you got some good advice. I've been sort of half looking for a good deal on a 20 Bahia Mar myself for the last couple of years. I know there's one on the Marblehead side of Salem Harbor that I go by now and again. Great looking boat. Where'd you get yours from? Where in Swampscott are you? Ray, Welcome aboard!! I've got a B20 moppie, I confess I didn't like the Bahia Mar at first. Though consider it a better all around layout than the moppie. Though that being said, the moppie is a sexier boat IMHO [;)] Mine's in getting a new transom right now, here's a link to the post on another board. http://www.simplifying.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=280 You'll be amazed at what the B20 is capable of doing. br, John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

Tunawish... While your experience with the Bertram owner you mention is unique among the "run of the mill" boat owners, I am not surprised that a Bertram owner went out of his way to accomodate you! When I began to ask questions here almost two years ago it was instantly obvious to me I was among a special group of proud boat owners, who appreciated the time proven design and strong construction of our boats. I can't begin to tell you how much I learned since then. We don't always agree on everything, but everyone here has experience that applies to the rest of us. It is given freely, with understanding and a desire to help. I think we all believe the Bertram name sets us apart from the vast majority of boat owners, and when we meet someone else who appreciates the Bertram name I think we feel a bond between us. Now you have the burden of doing the same in the future for someone else.. one day a newbie, or maybe even a present or an ex Bertram owner will approach you and want to talk about your boat, and you will recall the experience you mention above. Happy boating, and keep in touch with us here! Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

Ray, One thing is for sure No one will every ask why you purchased a Bertram No matter what the size. Enjoy your new boat.

Thanks guys Been away for a couple of days ..but not before I put her in the water last week.... Amazing hull for such a small boat..she really shows her stuff in the deep stuff... especially following seas...tracks like she is on rails...still trying to get used to the roll of the hull at a stand still..but I know that's a trade off in a small boat with a true deep V. I bought her in Maine..stole her actually but that's a long story for another time....The boat off West Shore Drive in Marblehead belongs to the guy who gave me the info..She has a Nantucket home port on her. Yeah.. I kind of had that feeling about Bertram owners being a proud bunch..there's nothing like knowing you own the best.... Doug, let me know how interested you are... I have a line on another that I passed on because the guy responded to slow...I have quite a bit of info on her....I also know of a Moppie that's ripe for the picking if I can help anyone else..although you may already know of it.. I know I'm probably on the wrong part of this site so I'll quit now and just say thanks a bunch for the warm welcome..It's nice to be recognized as part of the family even if it's the runt of the litter.. Thanks Again Ray
