Sportfish became FBC
Sportfish became FBC
Well after thinking about all the work and money it would take to get the sportfish we looked at back in shape, we went shopping. We found an FBC. (I am assuming FBC stands for flybridge convertable) Even at that, I am not sure if I am right or not. The web ad calls it a Bertram Flybridge. They are pulling it tomorrow to paint the bottom and the hull. Plus my hubby just HAS to have a new chart plotter added while it is high and dry. I guess knowing where you are going might come in handy. [;)] I get the blue LEDs! I am having a little trouble finding insurance on a 1977 model year. If worse comes to worse I did get a quote for $2200 from Gieco. We found a slip for $317 including electric and water so that is a good deal. Soon I will be able to ad my picture to my sig like all you other Bertram junkies! Marissa DeWitt Ocala, FL

Congrats Marissa, I gotta confess 8yrs ago when I feel in love with my B35, I didn't know the B33 FBC (you got it right) had 2 staterooms or I would have looked that way. Though, its cockpit is smaller she's a Bert and a nice ride. I have BoatUs and they've been fair, but I'm in MD and FL is a different game. John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

Mellisa, Where do you keep your boat? I do not remember any water in Ocala. If you are not sure which model it is, the best way to tell is if the engines are in boxes in the cockpit then it is a sportfish. If the engines are in the cabin under the salon floor then it is a FBC.... Many web ads call them all the same out of ignorance. Your insurance may start at $2200 but will probably go up 3-4 hundred every year. That is how mine is . Mine is also requiring a new out of water survey every 3 years because of the age. My cost with the survey fees is up to over $2700 that started at around $1400 2 years ago and i have it way under insured at $60k te sad part about it is if i put the insurance money in the bank in 10 years i can repower again or in 15 years i can pay for the boat again.

But, just for the extra room, we are gonna keep the boat at Yankeetown Marina. [;)] It is only a short trip by car to the gulf for us. The atlantic is not that far either, but the slip rate is almost double. Sounds like they sell boat insurance, like they sell health insurance. Well we are off today to go see the boat get pulled for painting. I can't tell you how excited we are. I got up this am without any additional promting... In other words I did not just roll back over, and tell my husband to go without me. LOL Marissa DeWitt Ocala, FL (edited for spelling)

I wish Marie was that excited about the "Nauti Marie". She loves it when she's on it. She loves it when things get nasty. That all changes when the insurance bill, the dock rent and the payment comes. It is just the cost we bear to keep me happy and somewhat sane. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

These boats sure are hard to get on when they are high and dry.[:)] Is there a good place to look for boat furniture? I have spent hours doing searches. I have seen a few things, but since I am not made of money, most are out of my range. I just cannot justify spending more an a sleeper sofa and a hi-lo table, than I spent on my entire bedroom set! Now hubby wants to get a slip further south.... I may end up sharing Mrs. Dugan's sentiments about the slip rental bills before to long. Marissa DeWitt Ocala, FL

Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA So I read... they will not insure this boat because of it's age. 1978 is as far back as they go. Online at least. I may try calling and see if they offer anything though. Thanks Marissa DeWitt Ocala, FL

Marissa, Let me start off by taking this opportunity to once again say that insurance companes in Florida in general have shown themselves to be bloodsucking scumbags. (that always feels good to get out) Now anyway, I've got an old college buddy that is a vehicle insurance broker, and as sort of a sideline he specializes in finding insurance for hard-to-insure boats. Because my rates shot up dramatically after the one-two punch of Hurricanes Jeanne and Francis, I decided to re-shop insurance last year, and I looked around extensively. I had trouble finding any other companies who would even quote my boat at all, considering that I keep her in Florida. Typically the ones that would wanted 5-6% of the boat's value for an annual premium, even though she lives full time in a sheltered hurricane-hole marina, and (get this) most insisted on a caveat that they would not cover it at all for windstorm damage. They also all wanted me to get a new survey... the 2.5 year-old one I had was not good enough for any of them. Anyway, it turned out that my friend was still getting me the best deal around by far. It was still very high, about $4k. But I did get windstorm and did not have to get a new survey. I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep paying that ridiculous premium, but for now I have decided to keep it. Don't take my word for it though. Shop around a lot... but give him a try too. His name is "CJ," and he is here: http://www.floridahiwayandmarine.com/ Tell him I sent ya Sean Burlingham "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL SBurlingham@cfl.rr.com

My insurance co. dropped coverage on my birdcage and raised the rates this year on my house. I just love the new little add ons they put in this year too. The emergency recoup charge, emergency recoup surcharge, and the emergency management charge. Those charges are toal bull and they are now added to every insurance policy you take out here. How can they charge you a surcharge on a charge? Oh well that is life these days I guess. I will give your guy a call. Thank you. We secured a slip in Hudson, so if you are ever on the west coast, (laugh) look us up. Marissa DeWitt Ocala, FL
