depth finder transducer
depth finder transducer
heloo everyone happy 4th of july to all , it looks like rain and thunder for us in SUNNY SOUTH FLORIDA.. I need your help again, i had a IN HULL transducer for my garmin 3010 color unit installed in my boat when i bought it. the guy put it in one of those fiberglass boxes in my engine room and filled it with some liquid i was told, i went fishing for the first time on my boat on sat. and it would not read the bottom or depth. I will be installing a thru hull when i take the boat out to be bottom painted this fall but has anyone had the same problem? My mechanic told me it could be because our hulls are so thick that maybe the signal does not get out that well, could this be true. He said that if i has a ocean or a luhrs it would be no problem. well thanx in advance as always..Pete

I just measured the piece I hole-sawed out of the boat this spring for my transducer. It is 7/8 inch thick. Bill 1988 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma. > ~-------

I seriously doubt that is the problem, I had a really cheap Sitex “shoot thruâ€ transducer on our 1979 33 SF (in 1984), it worked perfectly in shallow (to 100’, on one of those old circular blinking Fish Finders). It was not a fancy oil filled one either, just “gluedâ€ to the bottom in the center bilge. Only stopped working when it came un-bonded. Furthermore, this winter I installed Airmar shoot thru transducer (oil filled, for a Furuno unit) on our 1994 Bertram 30 Moppie and it works great right down to 300’. John

Speaking of hull thickness.... A 48 searay was hauled out on the travel lift here at the marina I am staying at in Marathon the other morning.Needless to say it had a long 15 foot gash in it on the syarboard side just above the waterline.Probably from 2 searays plaing chicken! Anyway, The tear looked like a cardboard box being opened . The FG could not have been 1/4" thick. The boat owner was lucky he was close to a travel lift and did not sink.

Just another SeaRay story. The owners are their worst enemy. A buddy went over to Walkers/Grand area (Northern Abacos) this weekend. Wanted to anchor up at Double Breasted, but there were so many SeaRays beached or aground from a thunderstorm, he had to go up to Grand Cays. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC
