oversize rudders
i'm interested in oversize rudders. can you tell me who to talk to?
Mike, You could try Danny at Hightide. Just wondering, but why do you want to go the oversize route? Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

I just received my oversized rudders from danny at high tide. They are nice. They are not that much bigger but they have less of a taper at the bottom giving them more overall surface are. I will post their performance on here as soon as I splash this year. If anyone plans on ordering them - send me an email first, I think they are worth it - but I have a few things that I can tell you before you buy.
I would bet that you'd have more control on one engine with the diesels just because you'll be travelling faster at idle thereby generating more flow over the rudders. I dont have the hp he will - but I have diesels and a small reduction ration and I can tell you that I could not stear with 1 engine. Manuever - yes, stear - no way. I tried a few times(just to see) and that was a part of the motivation in getting bigger. They are not that much bigger - but seem to have a lot more overall surface area. I will post the results (if I ever get in the water)
Sean, Can you measure the 2 and let me know how diffrent. I thought when they said oversized that was what you got. A guy down the road had done his 31. He toke the rudders out and had them extended and widened by a welder. Said his boat operated like never before. Loved them. Mike

Mike - I will be there this weekend and I will post the exact dimensions - but just eyeing them up I would say about a little over an inch wider at the widest point and an inch longer. The biggest difference is the new ones do not taper as much from top to bottom - they are more of a rectangle. I will take pics of the old laying next to the new.
