toilet instructions for 1989 33 sf

i recently bought a 89 33 sportfisher. everything is great but for the toilet. can someone please provide me with instructions concerning how to set valves? initially,my problem was that the holding tank remained full even after pump out. i think that's now fixed by avoiding holding tank and going directly to sea (we only use toilet when out to sea). my current problem is, when i attempt to bring water in to flush, i instead bring in you know what. thanks, gary
