I would use a fume tester for exhaust links form the gen to the exhaust port first. If the door is cabin door is closed and you have working alarms, I would feel safe. With that said, why not run the blower anyway?

Pete, I always thought that when it was beddy-bye time, then it was also time to kill the genny. Of course up here we don't need the air conditioning all night. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

I never run the blower when i have the genny on and i run it a lot.I have 2 co detectors in the boat one of them i got at home depot and has a digital readout so you know if there is zero co or not my original co detector does not have the digital read out so i did not know if there was a little co or not. I do get some readings on it sometimes but when i am running... i think it is exhaust from the mains and comes in a little if the kids do not shut the back door all the way.

you can never be to worried about co!!! My wifes eyes are always on the co detector. 2 or 3 co detectors and a fume sniffer is a good idea. People always complain about the genny on our boats being in the cockpit.I think just the opposite I thank Bertram for that.It keeps the noise and the co further away from the beds.

Like Tim, I have 3 C02 detectors. Salon, V-berth, & in the bunks. I check my exhaust hoses regularly and I do run the blower at nite. too many horror stories of people waking up dead in the morning because of something that could have been avoided with a little maint. and new batteries in the fume detectors. My 2 cents, if you plan to run the blower continuously please ensure it is rated for continuous duty. Most bilge blowers are rated for intermittent duty only to clear bilge gas fume while running 5-10 mins. Also, note that CO2 detectors have a limited life. Something like 5 years, just check the label. I found out the hard way after the one in basement went in to alarm in the middle of the night and the paranoid family would not go back in the house ($195 for a 3 hours hotel stay.....) A call to the manufacturer reveal the "alarm" was a warning the detector had expired. Capt Rich Catch 22 1989 33 FBC
