When you get Dropped

FYI. A friend of mine that has a 48 Ocean was told by his Insurance Co. earlier this week that they were not renewing policies in Fl. for 2007. He had this boat insured with them since 1990. No claims ever. I heard the daily report of all the crap he has gone through trying to pick up insurance. Like Boat USless was over $10K. He was paying $6K. Finally ended up in the UK with a Co. called TL Dallas, at $5.5K per year. I'm not promoting anything, but at least there is a post to refer to when the pirate Ins. Co. have priced us out. It looks like we have found insurance. Alan Nederlanden at Bateman, Gordan and Sands in Pompano found a carrier named T.L.Dallas out of the UK. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Are you nervous about having insurance with someone in the U.K.? Has your agent ever processed a loss with this company? I wonder how many boats are running around FL. without any insurance because of the high costs. Is it possible to not have insurance, can you register a boat without it? Sorry it's so high, takes the fun out of it. Bill 1988 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma. > ~------- [img]

Well, Not my problem yet. I just posted one person's solution. You can't even get a insurance co. to write a boat here just on liability. It gets worse every year. Storm or no storm. I started out at about $1000 per year. Now it's $3300. I made it by the new $800K spill clause. Can't wait for my next increase! Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Hi 33 friends, I wanted to report that I was able to get better coverage from BoatUS at half the price I was paying to Markel on my '84 33SF. From $5100 to $2490 is a huge difference. I don't know what changed with BoatUS as I had never gotten a resonable quote from them in previous trys. I was ready to go with liability only, then I found this. Hope this is of interest to some of you even if you don't like BoatUS. Chris

Chris, That's so odd. I just switched to Markel, under $900. That's for $130,000 value, though my agent somehow conviced them I had gone through the boat completely and I do have a 50 ton captains lic. Go figure.

I just helped a friend bring his 1980 40' Kadey Krogan trawler from Stuart, FL, to Norfolk, VA. When we crossed into GA he called his insurance company and told them the boat had left FL.. his $5,500 per year premium was immediately cut in half.

I've been dropped 3 or 4 times because the insurance companies stopped doing buisness in coastal NC. I've never had a claim of any kind storm related or other. Every time Boat US quoted a price it was high. I'm now with Charter Lakes. Buzz
