Capt. Gene, Congrats on making some progress. I think you mad the right choice in keeping the engines the same place as the older ones, messing with weight distribution is not a good idea. Hang in there on the motor and crooked sub who wants to up his $ after the fact?? You'll feel a lot better after the motors are in and you're back in the water. br, John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

Tim 3 blades 2.5:1 gears. The original set up was 3 blade 23x26 with the 2.57:1 gears. The 4 blades I have are 24x24. One needs $1000 worth of work, so I'm sticking with the 3s for now. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Here we are at Week #4. I can almost see light at the end of the tunnel. Both engines are in. Fuel is all hooked up. I added a set of Racors to the lines. Crusader is recommending that now due to the E10 shi$. Throttle and shift cables are all hooked up. I did not have to change the old ones. Just reverse the Stb. shift at the helm. Can't get the new shafts in until they lift the boat higher. And there is a boat blocking the travel lift to get to my boat. Should resolve that today. Merc to Crusader wiring harness doesn't match??? Strange...wonder if Merc had a different pin config just for Bertram? You wouldn't think so. Might have to do what they did to Tim's, using a terminal block. Bottom is done, hull waxed. Might get it in the water at the end of this week? New door still isn't here, so the stb bulkhead is still missing. What a mess... Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Gene, Did your Crusaders not come with Racors already attached to the engines like mine? or are they suggesting a second filter prior to the stock one? Do you have floscans?

Tim, They have a new configuration for 2007. The Crusader filter is now at the front of the engine in the same position as the model with the fuel returns. I added a set of 10 micron Racors on the rear bulkhead close to where the lines come through. Yes there is a service advisory on adding the extra filter now. I'm getting a set of the JW Murphay Powerviews. Crusader does not like things in the fuel lines. The Murphy's are plug and play. Full fuel function plus debug codes and gages. also in the same cable harness is the engine sync and cruise function. The Crusader Computer feeds all of it. I'm still using the std gages set up as well. That's the plan anyway. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Week 6. Boat is in the water. Both engines fired right up. Checking alignment and screwing down some stuff today. I called for fuel to load it up in the morning so I can sea trial it tomorrow. So we'll see how good the guys at the prop shop with the props. Now, I'm getting a little excited. This thing should scream. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

OK...here is the preliminary run data. 3400 RPM was 24.9kts. WOT 4200 rpm 32 kts. Obviously I need to take a the cup to no cup , or light cup. I had a full load of fuel, but no cabnets. I'm going to wait until I put the interior back and run it again for a better feel. It was also blowing like snot down in Port Everglades and I just couldn't play with it enough in the chop. And then we would run out of runway and swells coming in the inlet. It needs to run in calm water. But man did that thing jump. No tab at all and 2800 - 3600 RPM would snap your head back. The shipping co. damaged my new door, so I have a carpenter rebuilding the bulkhead to put that POS Bertram door back in. I'll bring it home tomorrow. Stay tuned. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. Congrats Gene! We can race now....4600 should be your target. If they were my props I would leave the cup alone and adjust the pitch by 2 inches 2 inches equals 400 rpm.Once you get your rpms right that should put you around 30kts wot.

To answer the quieter question. Most definitly. They scream more than roar like the old 454s. Talked to the prop shop and they are going to take out most of the cup at no charge. I'll take the props off and drive them down there this weekend. I just want to get the boat home. Couple of things I was concerned about, and asking Tim how they did it with his boat. The plug mismatch. Instead of doing the terminal block, I got some newer Merc plugs and wired them into my old cable and plugged that to the Crusader adapter. Worked perfectly. I didn't have to put in a separate pickup tube for the Genset. Seems to work fine, and the Racors in the line made no difference. We ran the crap out of it with fuel pressure gages on both engines with no drop. Oh and it showed 28 gal/hr at that 24.9 kts on the computer. I'm sure all that is going to change , so that is pointless to me right now. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC
