Maybe there is a difference with SF vs. FBC here, but my boat (gas SF) cruises at 21'ish knots @3000 RPMs, and to do this requires 340 HP. Hey brian, I'm also at Pilots Point Marina south yard, on "t" dock, which is directly on the river, just before the turn by the town dock. My wife's a school teacher, and I just retired, so we usually spend the summer at PPM. What dock are you on, and stop and say hello. I'll do the same if I can find you. David Sumich 33 Megabites Huntington Harbour, CA Forum Administrator Its not the hp. Its the torque. In boats, just like with pickups and big rigs, torque is king. Either of the 300-330hp 6's from Cummins and Yanmar put out a lot more torque than our 454's. They also do it at a lower rpm (much lower for the Cummins at around 2800rpms depending on the setup). Ken, Small world! Here we meet on the worldwide internet at Bertram33.com, yet our boats are only a couple of 100 yards away from each other in the same marina! I guess when you're in a marina with 863 slips, we can sometimes get lost in the crowd. I know exactly where "T" dock is so I'll definitely stop by this weekend! I'm on M dock, slip #2, over by restrooms near the pool. If you go by the boat you'll see my generator suspended from a cable and a 4x4 in the back cockpit (at least I hope it's still there). One more of many projects under way. You should join us August 12, 13 & 14 for the Bertram rendezvous out at Block Island (Champlin's)(NEBertramRendezvous.com). We need more 33' representation. Brian, I have to laugh...a few hundred feet apart. I'll be up to the boat on Sunday. I'll stop by.... We went to the NEBertramRendezvous year before last at Block Island. It was the 31 bertram one...but I have a great time and met some nice folks. I hate to plan too far in advance...but will attempt to make the Aug 13,14,15 Rendezvous Ken 1982 33FBC "Blue Chip" w/454 Crusaders Westbrook, Ct.

Hi Tim, Well I'd like to bring "BC" down to Florida...I'm on the water here in New Port Richey...a few hours(driving by car) north of you, and have a dock in the backyard. The problem is "BC" is very heavy...added things over the years....and my 22 year old Crusaders run pretty good...but they SUCK gas. I'm concerned that it would cost a small fortune to get from Ct., to west coast of Florida, and as I said motors are 22 years old. I have been researching a g-to-d repower for years now...but I'm still one the fence. Hard to justify 70 g's, plus what I already have in the boat, for something I use only 3 months a year. I have a 23 Grady White style boat at home in Fla., that I use the other 9 months...see the delemia ??? I'd like to "hook-up" with you this fall. I head back to Fla. around Sept.15 after winterizing "BC". I've added you to my AIM buddy list..I'm: skyking4ever if you'd like to add me. Brian...I'm still in Thornwwod... was going to head up to PP yesterday...but things can up and weather forcast looks rainy for Tues and Wed. So might head up Wed eve or Thurs day. Will walk over to "NSN" and say hi. Ken 1982 33FBC "Blue Chip" w/454 Crusaders Westbrook, Ct.

Ken, you are less than 2 hours away from me ....we should hook up when you come back down...i can understand the boat situation at least you have a boat in each location...the gas money and engine years is a problem...that is why when i bought my boat from nc i shipped it on a truck it was cheaper and dependable....maybe you should buy another 33 diesel and have 2 of them[8D] Tim Stamm Photo Finish 1981 33' Bertram FBC

Ken, I went by your boat a couple of times on 6/19 (morning & mid-day) but didn't see anyone around the boat. Perhaps you arrived later? Last weekend was in Juneau, Alaska! Got a chance to go fishing for Halibut while I was there and we landed 14 (maximum 2 per person on board). They ranged between 20 - 32 pounds. We had great weather and a beautiful 70 degree day! I'm heading up to the boat late tomorrow night (6/29) and have to finish a bunch of things Thursday before departing for Block Island for a 5 day weekend. Definitely stop by on Thursday if you are around. Brian '90 Bertram 33' FBC Never Say Never Westbrook, CT

Hi Brian... Glad to hear you had a good trip. I'm usually always at the boat...but when I came home last week....it seems every time I plan on heading back up to PP it starts raining. Andrea and I are heading up tomorrow (thurs.6/30) rain or shine. If we miss you have a great trip and we'll hook up when you get back...thanks for the note. Looking forward to meeting you and yours. Just to make the whole decision even tougher, here is what Tony Athens of Boatdiesel.com fame recently said about rebuilt Cummins: A genuine Cummins Factory Reman 330 with 100% all new hang-on components including the lastest seawater, aftercooling, electrical, exhaust, instruments systems, etc, etc is under $19000 (outright) complete w/ a new ZF220A gear--Just like a new 330 Diamond and carries a "real" warranty...The only thing we see on these engines that says it is "reman" is the injection pump and the engine tag-- everything else, including the block , appears to be the lastest "off the shelf" new components.........................Tony Anyone else just become confused again over which way to go![;)] Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

No idea. You'd have to call Tony. His shop is in California. I don't think you'd need 330's to push our boats. I think 300hp would be just enough to give a nice 22-23 knot cruise. You could probably keep the inch and 3/8's shafts as well. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Doug. Wow you think 1 3/8 shafts for 300 hp Cummins.????? Seems a bit shakey no ????? But ifI ever do do the diesel-to-gas conversion....and spend all that money...I'd think a bit more might be smart. I'm still looking for someone who did the 370's Cummins to pick their brain. "BC" is very heavy, I added icemaker in a cabinet under bridge ladder, genny, A/C, 13ft RBI w/15hp motor, 2 mopeds, and tons of my wifes junk. I'd like to be able to cruise at 25k's with out pushing the engines. Thats the dear anyway. Ken 1982 33FBC "Blue Chip" w/454 Crusaders Westbrook, Ct. AIM: skyking4ever
