Sportfish became FBC
Sometimes it is worth the extra $$$$ to have the engines surveyed. I did my own compression checks. water flow, and electrical when I purchased mine. Then we ran the crap outta them. When a repowered at 2200 hrs they were still running pretty well, but it was time. IMHO in Rissa's case, it sounds like lack of use and fuel problems. Corroded carbs, risers, more than likely corrosion in the distributer electronics too. Steering is leaking somewhere, probably a seal from sitting and then being worked. But probably everything can be fixed. Hope when you said "blew up" , it really didn't. Good news is you finally got it to the West Coast and you were all safe! BTW, I have a bag of Mercrusier stuff free to whoever wants it. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Doug, I have decided to go with the boat in Charleston. We have agreed on money.....I am just ready to run the boat and get the whole process underway but I am leaving tomorrow to fish the SKA Nationals in Biloxi this weekend. I think we will have all the contract stuff taken care of today then I will give a report about the seatrial and survey in the next week or two. Hopefully all of you can help me with your knowledge when all of this takes place. I am very excited if you can't tell.. BTW, I still have a good Grady free to good home in exchange for a good check. Thanks again, Scott Closer to being a B33 owner

Scott, I could be wrong, but this boat looks like a gas conversion (not that there's anything wrong with that), correct?: http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/ ... k&spid=139 Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

Yes, the boat was repowered in 2002 with the Yanmars. According to Mastry Marine, the engines have not been registered with Yanmar which may mean they have never had any warranty repairs done to them. The owner had the valves adjusted at 1000 hours so hopefully the engines are OK. The generator was also replaced at the same time the repower took place. Have any of you seen this boat in person or know anything about the boat that I need to be aware of? Thanks, Scott

I am familiar with this boat as it has been for sale in Charleston for quite a while, in fact I looked at it for Aussie Syd when he was getting info on boats to consider when he came to the US about 2 years ago. It is probably one of the cleanest B33s you will find. I can't speak for the engine warrantee situation.. I have not followed that issue at all, but since I know the broker I was able to climb over the boat and was very impressed. My feeling at the time was it would be a shame to fish with it and get nasty stuff all over the decks! Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

Scott, If they retained the velocijet part of the exhaust (that's the part that looks like a mail slot just below the stainless vents on the stern quarters) you'll want to make sure that the exahust cowling has not broken free from the insides of the hull. This was the case on my boat and many other 33's I've seen. If it is, its not a big deal as its an easy fix (shoot, its so easy I did that one myself!). Its just that its good to know because if it has failed you will be dumping exhaust soot and water back into the hull.
