Gene, When I repowered from Crusander to Merc, the mechanic used the same harness but there's no sync between these two engines. But I wouldn't think that will be too hard to add. I'd say if the harness looks in good shape, stay with it. Those new Crusaders are nice, good luck with the install !

Gene, Other option, which they did with mine, is tape one end of new harness to one end of old harness and either pull from the bridge down to the bilge or the bilge up to the bridge to snake the new harness through the cable feed area. The harnesses look to be in good shape. I repowered a single screw boat I had before I got 2 ftitis. Went form OMC to Marine Power. They had a conversion pigtail, and I didn't touch a thing. Fired right up. I think Crusader would have the same concept. Afterall they recommend these engines as "good as diesel" (their opinion)repower options. I've done plenty of taping and sliding to run cables. Greasing them up works goo too. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Gene, My mechanics did not run a new harness. They put a buss bar on the rear bulkhead behind the engines and connected the old wires to the pigtail off the new engine.

Using a buss bar was a slick idea!

Tim, That is a interesting concept. I'll have to look at all the wiring diagrams I have and see if there is enough detail for me to do that. I went to the Miami Boat Show and looked at the connection on the new engine. Lot more pins than the Merc. Obviously sends a lot more information up to the bridge. I think just putting the engines in the boat is going to be the easy part. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Gene, I can give you the color matchup of the wires or i could take a picture of the bus bar connections. You can come over and take a look at the installation in person if you want as well.

Tim, I may just do that. The list will surely grow. I'm just getting into it now. Started taking the cabinets apart last night. Not liking what I see already. Rot back underneath the aft cabinet. Hope that aft bulkhead is ok. took pictures of engines that goes to BoatTrader today. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Ok..had a great weekend in the Keys. Drove back home last night. Up at 4am this morning and off to Ft. Lauderdale. Great ride. They were calling for 9-11, but wind was out of the West and I had 2 ft swells all the way to Port Everglades. Hour & half up the New River and drove it into the sling. High & dry. Let the fun begin $$$ca-ching. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Turn around time is supposed to be 2 weeks. I know better. My new door isn't here yet, and I need to make sure how much I could cut out of the door hole to get the engines out. So I guess we'll have to take off a manifold and do it the hard way. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Update Day 4 into the "Project". All this physical labor is killing me. Rudders out. Shafts out. Engines out. Raw water strainers, pickups out. Usless Datamarine transducer and speed wheel out. Only "bad" news is I'm going to have to take out that stb. bulkhead. It was pretty rotten in a couple places. This weeks plan is have a new bulkhead built and have the engine room done. Put all the thru hulls and plumbing back. I have pics as soon as my daughter downloads them off her camera for me. Oh and the new engines are in the mail. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. John, I'm doing the grunt work, mostly tearing it apart. Takes less talent. It's more a 2 man job. This is a small yard, but has some honest subs. I have a independent Crusadar dealer connected with the yard working on the boat pretty much full time . I want this over as quickly as possible. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC
