Hi Frank, No, if I din't take my wife on this holiday after buying the boat I'm sure you could imagine what sort of trouble I would be in ( ihave to stay in the good books) I'm leaving the boat all in Eddie's hands I'm sure he will do the right thing at the end of the day. Regards Syd.

Well, after "stealing" a great final weekend I emptied the boat yesterday in anticipation of calling it a season. Final tally was 180 hours on the new engines and I am happy to report not so much as a hick-up. They didn't even use a quart of oil! For any of you guys on the fence in terms of going diesel, I will tell you that I have never enjoyed my boat more than I did this year. It truly gave me the feeling of having a new boat. None of the smelly, smokey issues that my wife was so concerned about, I routinely ran at speeds that were just not practical in the past, and I was able to fish offshore without thinking twice about range and reliability. All in all, it is an upgrade worth digging deep for! As I look at the cost of other used boats on the market I am amazed that our boats are not attracting more attention. I used it for everything from entertaining work people for a cocktail cruise where my wife was serving hot apps, to hard-core offshore fishing tournements - and she shined in all settings. I finally invited him fishing and he came back a convert. If marketed properly, I honestly think these boats could double in value.

Thats a great feeling George. We all know the value of these boats and the versatility.Hopefully smart shoppers will too someday. George and Brian and Syd, I do not recall anywhere on this thread that you shared with us what the final costs were . I am sure all of us here would love to know the expense involved all the way down to the last hose clamp. If that is not getting too personal.

George, 180 hours! That's great. Did you have to take a sabatical from work this summer? I put about 80 hours on mine and couldn't imagine doing more than twice that! Any idea on what your total fuel burn was? What do you think you're burning at cruise? Nope Doug, normal work schedule, just lots of fishing. Never mind the fact that I fished on my buddies Carolina Classic 5 times. If you see my wife tell her I am safe (kidding of course). Eddy did my 50 hour around mid August so I actually put over 100 hours on the boat since then - what a blast! As for total fuel burn, I stopped keeping count. I know you guys think all this should be properly logged but to be honest, once I got a good sense for overall range I stopped looking at gallons per hour as being overly meaningful (within reason). By way of example, depart Falmouth at 8:00 a.m. for a run to the canyons (usually 80 miles or so at about 22 knots loaded with everything we can carry); troll all day until dark; drift and chunk all night (with gen running about half the time); wake up and troll til 1:00 and then run home - fuel was between 200-210 every time. I am guessing about 18 or so gallons an hour at cruise. As for all in costs; importantly, it was the amount I was quoted. I will gladly share this info if you want to send me an email but I suspect nothing good can come from me posting this publicly.

Took the last run of the season on Saturday, November 4th. Seas were calm and the sun was shining (60 degrees). What a great way to end the season. Tallied up 65 - 70 hours since delivery on July 15. Decided to check performance numbers one last time: 3450rpm(WOT) = 32.4 knots 3300rpm(max rating) = 31.0 knots 3100rpm = 29.0 knots 3000rpm = 28.2 knots 2900rpm = 27.3 knots 2800rpm = 25.8 knots 2700rpm = 23.5 knots 2600rpm = 22.1 knots 2500rpm = 21.4 knots 2400rpm = 19.9 knots I had full fuel and gear, 2 people on board and the readings were with the wind at my back, so on my return (against the wind), the speeds came down about 1 - 1 1/2 knots. I spoke to Eddie at Johnson's Boat Works after haul out on November 7 to check on winterization. He told me that Syd's boat came out great! After doing George's and mine, he decide to go from a 2 to 1 transmission to a 2.5 to 1 transmission and he said the performance was awesome. He said Syd's jumps right out of the hole, faster than mine. I've got great performance, so I can't imagine what 2.5 to 1 would do! The boat's all winterized with cover framing up, just need to put the cover on after Turkey Day. Syd, Has your boat arrived in Australia yet? Tim, Never made the plunge on the BoatPix picture. Though the pictures were great, it was an overcast day and not all the kids were on the bridge, so I decided to wait for another day. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Hi Brian and members Nice hear your boat performance is very impressive , too bad you guys can only use your boats for 6 months of the year, Had a few delays getting the boat to Baltimore by road transport, missed the shipping date so it sat there at the harbour for a couple of weeks waiting for the the next ship to Aus to arrive.Left on the 25th November and will arrive here at the Port of Fremantle on the 1st of December.I check the shipping schelue and it looks like its on time via New Zealand and the East Coast of Aus before arriving here. Certainly looking forward to seeing it arrive and hopefully having the opportunity to use the boat over the xmas holidays, our best boating weather. Was'nt sure about doing a name change on the boat (all that bad luck stuff) however have decided a new country, new refit why not a new name = CARPE DIEM. Will post an up date on arrival. Regards Syd

Brian, Those are pretty fast speeds. I hope that some day I can get a ride on your boat and wish I had taken the time to look at your installation when we were together at Oak Bluffs. I was impressed with how well behaved any helpful your children were when you arrived and departed and I have to admit, I can't remember seeing them much while you were there, that's how well behaved they are. Brian, you are a class act. I hope to get together again next summer with you and all the other guys but I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to Montauk. I think we need to put some thought into a B33 northeast shindig

Great news Syd! I think you will be very impressed! The more I use mine the more I am convinced that the Bertram legend is real! I was supposed to be making the delivery trip with "Phoenix" north about 170 miles from Charleston, South Carolina, to Wilmington, North Carolina, yesterday and today, but the weather did not co-operate, we are having gale warnings and medium to heavy rain which started mid day yesterday and it is supposed to get even worse during today! With our Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday this week there was just no window that seemed to work for us to move her after the storm subsides. I have to be in Massachusetts for work next week, so now we are looking at the trip hopefully in early December. I hate it when work interferes with the important things in life! Good luck, and we will all be looking for your updates! Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

Brian, So happy to hear that it all was worth the wait, as it usually is. It's just irritating when everyone else is boating and you're in the yards. Syd, Sounds like a great holiday is coming your way. I wouldn't worry about changing the name...I did on mine when I bought it and I'm still here to tell the story....but you wouldn't want to know how much $$$ I've put into it ! Frank, If you've got extra time, give us a call and we'll have a few Bertram beers. My cell: 978-821-5662 Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA
