To those of that called me on my cell the past 2 days (Tim, Al, Frank B, etc...) I apologise for not returning your calls. I figured I'd post here so I'd only have to tell the story once. I splashed yesterday right on schedule. The installer (Doug Courier) was present, and both motors and the gennie fired right up while still in the slings, though the port motor (which is the one that was re-built) was smoking a bit more than the starboard. When we went to put them in gear, Doug found that the shifts were reversed for forward and reverse. We decided to pull the boat out of the pit by hand and tied her up at the bottom of the ramp next to the travel lift pit. Once they had it sorted out, the port motor did not want to re-start. Long story short is that the after cooler had a pin hole leak in the bundle and needs to be replaced (at no cost to me). Obviously, a sea-trial was out of the question, but we were able to by-pass the after-cooler so I could run her over to my own slip on 2 engines. Hopefully, Doug will get the new part on Monday and we can do the sea-trial on Tuesday night after work. Of course, all of this played out over several hours yesterday and I was pretty wiped out when all was said and done. The good news is that the Westerbeke 7.3 and sound shield fit (though tightly). It is very quiet and does not smoke at all. I could run it all day/night with out it bothering me or anyone else. So, keep your fingers crossed and hopefully Tuesday night I will have good news to report. Hi Tim, Sorry I did not respond sooner I did not notice you had sent me a message. Anyway I had plans to go to Marathon during the memorial holiday week but just could not put it together. If the storm season cooporerates maybe I can make it in July or August. I am still learning this site and how everything works. Talk to you later. Jeff Stephens Jeff, I did not realize that we had another 33 in SWFL.I will be in Marathon in June if you go to Key West you should make a stop in Marathon. Hi Doug, Sorry I did not get back to sooner but like I told Tim I did not notice the responce (still learning how all this works). I curise between 2200 and 2400 the motors don't like anything below 2100 that is right at the peek torque (about 2150). With average load and a clean bottom the speed in KT. and the rpm come close to matching (22KT at 2200, 23KT at 2300). That is with 1.5 gears. Max speed on the GPS is 29.9 KT. Sometime when I an running downwind I will push it to 30 KT. just to say I can. I could not be happier with the performance and overall outcome. By the way I installed an 8 KW Northen Lights and I moved it into the engine room in front of and between the motors (right behind the fresh water tank). At raft ups I can run everybodies A/C units. If I am reading you recent posts correctly You are makeing your first runs today or tomorrow. Good luck...you will love it at 25 KT. these boats feel like a HOT ROD after pushing those old gas motors for years. Keep us posted. Jeff Stephens Welcome aboard. What rpms are you cruising at. I know inch and 3/8's is marginal, but Bert used inch and 3/8's on all of the diesel 33's. Even the ones made in the last couple of years with the 320hp Cats are running inch and 3/8's. Also, the Cummins rep who did my install is running the same exact setup on his 34 Hatt using inch and 3/8's. 5000 hours and no problems for him so far. Doug... Glad to hear you are in, and that the problems are all manageable! Congrats! Sorry for calling.. yours was the first msg I have ever rec'd on a cell phone that had a pic attached (I lead a dull life!) and I was not sure if 1 - it was legit, and 2 - I did not know who it was from (until I called back and heard your voice msg) so.. no problem. I am about ready to remove both my aftercoolers and have them disassembled/checked. According to Tony Athens Cummins assembles them dry (ie: no grease) and they need to be removed and disassembled every 3 years or so to prevent them corroding together. Apparently once the copper innards get stuck to the aluminum shell they are tough to get apart. My local Cummins guy says he has had pretty good success in heating the shell and breaking the corrosion seal, but mine are 9 years old and have probably never been apart, so I am expecting bad news. Hey.. money can fix anything! Keep us all posted. Frank B - IRGuy@aol.com "Phoenix" 1983 FBC Wilmington, NC

Jeff, Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to get numbers similar to yours. Frank B, Did you at least get the pic? Doug C. had the after-cooler apart and said it looked brand new which is why he didn't bother to pressure test it. Live and learn. Thanks John. That's a bummer you have to buy new gears. Hope it works out for you. If you haven't already done so, I'd list them on boatdiesel and/or ebay. I see you've already got them on the Hatt site. I've bought and sold a couple of items their myself.
