Heading for a repower
Mike, I tried to send it through the site (it doesn't show your e-mail). So the story on the genset is that it's about a 94 model and in very decent shape has about 700hrs (I think). I've kept it clean and painted and changed the oil twice a year. About 4yrs ago I had an Onan guy out to give it a complete once over and adjust the output. It's run great ever since. This fall it developed a rattle and my neighbor looked at it with me and said it was the rear bearing (gen part not motor) and that it wouldn't be too hard to replace. He use to service and now sells Onan gensets & said he'd supervise while I did the work. I haven't got around to it yet but will be the first thing done when it's de-winterized along with a fresh tune up. So, with the bearing fixed and a fresh tune up I'd be asking $1800 for it. -John John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

Thank John, My boat has the original Gen in her but, still runs OK I think. I have only ran the boat for a few hours after bought her. When I get her out of the garage and in the water this spring if the Gen is questionable and your Gen is still available I'll get back to you, but I thank you for getting back to me. I have been going down to North East MD every few months to work on the boat I don't know how far you are from there but maybe stop by sometime if it's not to far from you. Mike....
Mike, Thanks for the invite I'm about 1.5hrs away and would love to see you're boat. I really like the new Crusaders and would have went that route if I hadn't gotten the deal on the cats. If you're down this way and need a place to stay let me know. e-mail: johndunker@yahoo.com cell: 410-218-4886 John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

Hi Mike, I did get your msg the other day and saved your #, sorry I haven't returned your call. Here's an update. Purchased motors, generator and misc parts a little over a week ago. The motors are on their way to the rebuilder this week or next. Since the donor boat is getting all the latest motors and trans with electronic sync, I was also able to get the gelndenning sync, cables, gauges and harnesses that go with the motors. I'll be pulling my boat for the repower around the end of March or Beginning of April as space opens up in the yard. No real deadline to this project, but I'd like to get back into the water before the end of the summer. As I wait for things to kick off, I'm on a list of "Have To Do's" and "Like To Do's". Making the list is the fun part completing it will be harder I'm sure. Also, there's some electronics from the donor boat that I don't want but are available at a reasonable price, email me for details. 1) A 4ft open array Furuno radar, I think the model is 1949?? It's a crt type display, not LCD, and was in working order when removed 2) A Furuno fish finder, I didn't get the model#, but can find out. Br, JohnD John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

It figures, we camp the 3rd weekend of most months(especailly the spring and fall). I'll be in Gettysburg that weekend. Forecast this weekend is for 40's to 50's with some sun, looks like Maryland is beginning to thaw out. After 3-4 inches of snow last sunday and shoveling, i'm ready. Sean I've got a 3-blade set I don't what they are, the boat's still in the water. I'll dig up my 4-blade set which are in the shed, I think there 18 or 19 sqaure?? Both are for 1-3/8 shafts. The 4-blades are in great shape, just need to clean off some growth. I had only run them about a month after being reworked before I realized they were too much prop and switched for the 3-blade spares. br, John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

Well motors are at T&S and they're going to start on them today/tomorrow. Let the fun begin.. If anybody knows of somone running 3126's (385 or 420hp) in a Bertram, I'd like to know what size prop they're using. Next week I'll be calling Black Dog on Kent Island to get their input. I also am trying to find out was on the 40 Ocean the motors came out of. Well off for camping in snowy PA this weekend. br, JohnD John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

quote:Originally posted by smanni John, Sorry if you already said this - but what size are your old props - Im looking for another pair. Sean I checked the props yesterday and the 4-blades are 20x17, the 3-blades are in the water so I don't know what they are. With any luck I should be hauling the 1st week in april. br, John D John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

Stopped down to Chrisfield this past Friday and both motors are done one was painted and the other should be painted this week. I opted for trolling valves to be installed on the ZF280 gears which will solve the low speed handling/fishing. They will take a week or so to get here and the motors should be ready for pickup by the end of the month. Soon the fun will begin! John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD

The Boat's on the Hard!!! Tucked in a nice out of the way corner of the yard next to power and water. I'm hoping to complete work in 2 months?? For those who approcah this as I am, doing most of the grunt work yourself, I'll post updates from time to time. I've been reading/thinking about this for several years and still expect to learn a great deal as I go. The one thing that makes it possible for me, is a yard which allows you to do your own work and are also willing to advise in addition to handling the "heavy lifting". I worked a few hours last night, carried some tools down to the boat and un-hooked the generator. It will be pulled and fixed and then be for sale. The motors have been sold and will come out on the 22nd of May. Then the fun will begin. I'll be cleaning and painting the bilge area. As well as, repairing the aft-bulkhead and preparing the way for the new motors. Not sure if it's appropraite (so please edit me if not), here's a list of some things I've got for sale. - A set of FloScan TwinScan Tach & fuel, with all parts and instructions, including wiring I used, new $700, mine 1yr old $500 or B/O. - It's an '94 Onan 7.5kw gas gen fwc ~750hrs no sound shiled. There's a bearing on the generator shaft housing that will be replaced and the shop will give the gen a once over. I'll set the price after I know what it costs to fix and for sure what kind of condition it's in. If intersted shoot me an e-mail johndunker@yahoo.com John D "Lady D" Bertram 35 Pasadena MD
