You guys using an older Kohler should be aware of the class action suit they settled fairly recently. Seems they used a cast iron elbow in the exhaust which corroded inside out and killed a few people. Free voluntary replacement of offending elbow!

My kohler 7.3 gas shut down on me this weekend. It sounded like a fuel delivery problem so i replaced my racor filter which was pretty new. that did not work so i tested the fuel pump by removing the fuel tube from the carb and hooking the fuel pump direct to the battery. fuel was barely coming out so i replaced the fuel pump.still did not work so i put the old fuel pump right on the gas tank pick up to make sure the pick up was not clogged. It was not clogged .So i decided to bypass the racor filter entirely since that was the only link left.Sure enough the genset started right up and ran great. So I guess i have 3 questions for you guys.; 1- do you guys use racors or any other water sep filters on your gensets? 2- The racor that i have on the genset has a top housing that a filter screws on and than a metal bowl scres on the bottom of the filter. Is there anybackflow valve that could have gone bad and not opened on the racor housing?I did not think so but i thought i would ask. 3- Is the fuel pump not strong enough to suck through the 6' of fuel line and a racor filter? One more food for thought is that I have been running this set up for a few months and has run pretty well but have found that my genset has shut down just about every trip and last weekend i had to put a voltage regulator on which now i am guessing went bad due to the engine running out of fuel and surging abruptly then shutting down. I am thinking that since this probably has surged to shut down on my last 5-6 trips that the surging spiked the voltage regulator.

Tim, Could the genset be sucking air through the racor?Did you grease the gasket on the filter when you installed it? Or could the filter be clogged? I'm afraid I'm not much help with gensets. I think of them the same as outboards, when they give trouble, I throw them away and get a new one. I know this is a new one however.

i did grease it and i would think if it had an air leak, that would result in a fuel leak and i detected none. do you have a racor on your westie?

Tim, I have a Racor like yours along with an additional spin-on filter, and I have no problem drawing fuel. Have you checked the Racor housing for a clog, and the blow out the lines yet? Seeing that the direct connection worked, it is in the housing or the filter micron rating is too small for the fuel flow. 1979 Bertram 33' FBC ALEXANDRA Port Richey, Florida HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR BERTRAM PRIDE '06 yet? (Seeing that the direct connection worked, it is in the housing or the filter micron rating is too small for the fuel flow.) Ed, that is my guess too.
