"I hope they left the liquor stash alone!" That is funny you should mention that. He did leave the liquor alone, but he went into the fridge and opened up a new bottle of some pineapple/coconut juice and drank it, and then left it on the counter. It had fingerprints all over it. He was about the worst crook ever!

Dave, What a great ending...it's the story that keeps getting better! It's so easy for anyone to break into boats, I'm always nervous too, but I'm glad to hear that it was fully recovered. What are the chances ? I'm curious......how'd they break in ? Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

They didn't have to break in, the cabin door was unlocked. You can't get to the boats though without a key to get to the slips. Regardless, I will keep it locked now all the time.

In point pleasant they would have offered him the booze to mix with it. They have boat break ins but never catch the guys. You got some good cops on the west coast. Mike

Sounds like a real dumbass. I wish a life of pain and suffering to those low lifes. At least the Cops actually did something. I had my old boat broken into and all my fishing gear stolen. They had to be called 3 times to come out. Never even got on the boat , and were annoyed they had to fill out a report. Then they say I am illegally docked at a residense (against the law in Boca to rent your dock) and they were going to turn us in to the City! Next thief just gets shot and I won't have to deal with them. Gene Dugan

HAAA! But how do you really feel Gene ? I've often debated the pro's & con's of locking everything up. In your case Dave, you could have sustained more damage if it was locked up. If they start sawing away then let's face it, we've got a lot more work to do. Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

Crooks don't want to hassle with much unless they know the payoff is big. I think if I keep it locked up good, and curtains drawn so they can't see what is inside, I will be better off.

David Glad for your happy ending. I agree with your comment on the thief’s pay off. For what’s is worth I lock the door, leave the curtain open and all the valuable out of sight (If I leave the internationals on board they are in the forward berth covered, opps hope the thieves are reading!). I am in the safest marina and many guys leave the hardware out and vulnerable. I will no longer leave the key hidden on board. I plan to now add a combination lock box, so the key can be available; I am about 1.5 hours from the boat in season. Capt Rich Catch 22 1989 33 FBC

David, We had a guy about ten years ago break into five boats in one night including my 28! Three of us stayed on board the next night and the dumb SH*T came back we held him for the Police with a flare gun. The Police recovered most of the stuff and insurance paid all damages and cleaning & disinfecting of all the boats. Gunny GunnyD Jim Davis Belfast Me [img]
