Hi Don; I believe that the frecuency with which you care for her is more important than the type of product used. Once a week she is washed (and dried)with Tide liquid soap, twice a year she gets waxed and once per year compound. Seldom and with great remorse I might use Soft Scrub or even Acetone for stuborn transom or vinyl stains. During the warm season a diver cleans the bottom monthly, every 6 weeks in the winter. The bottom gets painted about every 2 years (Micron Extra or Ultra from Interlux). Jose Jaen "Blue Chip" 1993 33FBC Miami FL

Captgene, Wilma also attempted to destroy our newly installed shade however I was able to lash it down to the cleats during the storm and saved it. Ours attaches at the flybridge and covers 3/4 of the cockpit. It is U shaped and only has two supports that attach to the rail on the bridge allowing full access to access the front of the boat. We had an additional 2' of canvas made that attaches to the frame at the rear to give us additional shade when required. We wanted shade when at mooring and room to fish the boat as well. I believe we achieved both. This time the picture is attached i hope George Skillas 33 FBC Destiny Deerfield Beach, Florida

George, What year is your boat? It looks like it may be an 87, but it looks like you've got a funky addition to your ladder. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

The boat is a 1983. The prior owner had some issues with climbing up and down the ladder and had a stainless steel addition welded to the original. We purchased the boat in May of '05 on the west coast of Florida and brought it through the Okeechobee waterway to the east coast. As you are aware, there are always improvements that you want to make to your Bertram. I recently installed a bow pulpit and am now waiting on some additional parts for a windless which is the next project. The last major addition that I will be looking for is a set of outriggers. If anyone knows of a used set in the south Florida area please let me know. George Skillas 33 FBC Destiny - 1983 Deerfield Beach, Florida

Al, the outriggers sound great however I don't think I could transport from the Northeast. Tim, you are absolutely correct. The boat was the Wavy Gravy. I don't know much about the boat's past but she seemed to be properly maintained. George Skillas 33 FBC Destiny - 1983 Deerfield Beach, Florida

George, That is funny ,I thought that was the boat because i recognized the ladder and the radar post.I have been on that boat before .It was docked a couple streets from me .I did not know the guy but a friend of mine knew the man and that the boat was for sale so we toured the boat.I had just purchased mine so who knows i may have ended up with that boat had i seen it first. If i remember correctly it had 3208s.The boat was recently painted at owl creek marina and it looked great especially the cockpit area .I think the owner told me he paid 30k for the paint job[:0].and yes he told me the ladder had an extra set of rails to aid in climbing because they were a little older and the ladder was a little tough to climb.I do not know what the maintenance on the rest of the boat was but anyone willing to spend that kind of dough on paint should not have skimped elsewhere. Oh ! by the way I hope the first thing that you do is lose that lovely purple carpet. Good luck, Tim Tim Stamm Photo Finish 1981 33' Bertram FBC

It's a small world Tim and yes your memory is great. The boat has 3208's and the wonderful carpet was bright purple. I was not sure where the boat was painted however the broker did state that the owner paid 30k for the paint job. The boat was well maintained and extremely clean compared to some that we previewed. I believe the ladder issue is the reason the owner placed the boat on the market. He was going to look for a boat without a fly bridge. Now the challenge for us is to customize it to our taste by adding the amenities that make us comfortable. That is part of the enjoyment of owning a Bertram. Cap'n Ed, Like George says, not really practical to transport from the Boston area. They are Lee's with an 8' base & double spreader poles that are 22' long. They were put on in 1998 & I took them off after my purchase of NITES OFF in fall of 2001. Al 1978 33 FBC NITES OFF

George, I called on that same boat too. Before it was painted. I never went to look at it. There were about 6 33 FBCs between Ft. Pierce and Marathon that were closer. Maybe I should have gone over and looked. BTW , I have some slightly bent 22ft Lees. I bent them back some to fish, but I do need to replace them. My wife says they work so why do you need new ones? Like it isn't hot out so why do you need to replace the sun shade. You don't catch anything , so why do you need $2000 fishing poles....women just don't get it. Gene Dugan

Gene, you are correct sometimes the fairer sex doesn't understand however both have wants for the boat. We recently replaced a perfectly good 120 volt refrigerator with a 120V/12V one and guess what? I still don't have outriggers and as a result haven't caught any more fish! Ah, our time will come. [:)] Gene, If you decide to replace the outriggers, let me know and if your interested in selling, I will take a look to see if I can do anything with them. The Lighthouse Point Marine Flea Market is Jan 21, 22 and I will be actively searching there as well. George Skillas 33 FBC Destiny - 1983 Deerfield Beach, Florida
